2023 Prime Video film Medellín Ending Explained

We discuss the ending of the 2023 Prime Video film Medellín which will contain significant spoilers.

Medellín starts with an exciting car chase and we are quickly introduced to Rèda, a manly man who’s a boxing coach who demands respect. On the other hand, his little brother is more quirky and geeky and tries to impersonate Pablo Escobar for his social media fans, leading him to be “kidnapped.” This upsets Rèda, who now must get a gang together to help save his little brother from a fate worse than death.

This film is a rescue mission gone wrong and really tells the story of how three suburban guys took out one of the biggest Cartels in Columbia. It’s exciting, full of comedy and is very well acted.

Medellín ending explained

Why was Brahim kidnapped?

Brahim impersonates cartel legend Pablo Escobar on social media, dressing like him, acting like him, and this upsets the Medellin Cartel, who kidnaps him.

However, it turns out that Brahim wasn’t actually kidnapped, and he made up the entire hoax to gain more followers on his social media accounts. Stupidly, he didn’t let his brother know about this ridiculous plan, and his brother and friends truly believed he’s been kidnapped.

This doesn’t keep Brahim safe, though. After the Cartel knows Rèda has kidnapped one of their own, they then really do kidnap Brahim.

Why did Rèda kidnap the cartel’s son?

On their mission to save Brahim, the trio ends up partying in a strip club. Things take an extreme turn when the three wake up after the big bender and realize they’ve managed to kidnap the head of the Cartels’ son, Don Nacho. He’s the son of El Diablo, the most dangerous Narco in all of Colombia. They make a video, post it on social media, and make the statement “Brahim or bullets.”

While Rèda, Stan, and Chafix do not want to hurt Don Nacho, they end up in situations where Don gets his legs bitten off by sharks.

Does the plan to save Brahim go to plan?

The best stories come from plans that didn’t go correctly, and this one doesn’t. The storyline’s chaotic mess-ups allow for high-speed chases, intense interactions, and funny situations.

Roughly halfway through the film, the Cartel and Rèda meet up in a car lot to swap one for one. Don Nacho falls out of the car, showing that his legs are missing, and the Cartel tries to shoot them all, causing them to flee, leaving Brahim behind.

Reba and co still need to save Brahim, so they team up with one of the strippers from the club, who’s an undercover cop, and Robbie (Mike Tyson) to put a stop to the Cartel.

This also doesn’t go as planned, leading to our dramatic ending.

Does Rèda save his brother?

Towards the end, the group hatches a plan to infiltrate El Diablo’s underground base to find and rescue Brahim. With the help and support of Marissa and Robbie, they’re successful, but once they’re out and safe, they realize they have forgotten Chafix. It’s now time for plan B — to go back and have a massive shootout.

What happens to Rèda and Brahim at the end?

After, the four then drive to one of Escobar’s houses, where the final phase is to entice the cartel into the house and blow it up from the inside, killing them all. They will then escape Colombia via a helicopter on the grounds of the house without being noticed.

They send a teasing video to El Diablo, who now plans to storm Escobar’s property, and the race is on for them to get away in time.

Rèda can’t get out of the house in time, and Stan is forced to leave his best friend to die with the Cartel. The house dramatically blows up as the three fly away safely. In the final scene, we see Rèba’s boxing club, with Brahim now in charge, and Stan looking up at a huge street art picture of Rèba, remembering his brave, brutal best friend.
