Netflix’s true crime drama Scoop is a gripping crime drama directed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta and based on the real-life events surrounding Mumbai-based journalist Jigna Vora. She was arrested for allegedly conspiring with gangster Chhota Rajan in killing a fellow crime journalist called Jyotirmoy Dey in 2011.
Rajan was sentenced to life imprisonment, and Vora was acquitted seven years after the killing.
Jigna Vora Explained
Vora was a crime reporter for The Asian Age newspaper in Mumbai. After completing her law degree at Ruparel College in Mumbai, she would finish a diploma at Somaiya College. Here, Velly Thevar, another respected crime reporter working for The Times of India, would encourage her to move into crime reporting.
Things would not go as she intended initially, and an arranged marriage would see her give up an internship at a law firm. The marriage did not go well, and in 2004 Vora took her four-year-old son and go into the media.
Jigna Vora became involved in a horrific attack on a fellow journalist. Jyotirmoy Dey was a senior crime reporter for Mid-Day, a Mumbai newspaper. He became known for his investigative journalism involving the Mumbai underworld but was murdered on June 11, 2011, gun downed by criminals on motorbikes during the day in Powai, Mumbai.
The authorities would, of course, look into the event, and seven people would be arrested. Gangster Chhota Rajan would be among those taken in for the murder, and Vora was also named as one of the conspirators.
The investigation would state that Vora had supplied information about Dey, including his address and bike license plate. Despite always denying the accusations against her, Vora would eventually be sentenced to jail time for her alleged involvement. She would spend nine months in jail before receiving bail and would be cleared of all charges after seven years after the events occurred.
Where is Jigna Vora Now?
Although hard to officially verify her location, it seems that Jigna resides in Mumbai with her son.
After struggling with the fallout from the events that surrounded the murder and her incarceration and fighting for justice, Vora would turn her attention to helping heal people spiritually with Tarot cards and astrology.
Vora advises people looking for guidance through her psychic and mystic readings.
