My Fault on Amazon Prime Video or the alternative title Culpa Mia is about a young girl who has to leave her town, boyfriend and friends behind and move into the mansion of her mother’s new rich husband. There she meets Nick, her new stepbrother.

Now, it’s always questionable what the relationship between a step-sibling can be and this film pushes those boundaries. In this drama, the two of them fall madly in love in secret.

Whether it’s a rom-com or a dramatic thriller, the films on this list all push the boundary and tell unconventional love stories. The importance of these films lies in the intimacy coordinators and the chemistry between the lead actors in order for them to be believable to audiences.

10 Movies like My Fault

The Summer We Lived (2020)

This film is quite similar to Culpa Mia and is about a journalism student named Isabel who is part of a newspaper in a Galician coastal town for her work placement.

During her stay, she finds an anonymous obituary dedicated to Lucia. It dates back to 1958 and tells the story of a deep friendship filled with love and treason.

Just A Little Chemistry (2015)

In this unrated romantic comedy, a fan girl finds herself torn between the attraction for her film idol and her male best friend. It’s always hard being torn between two lovers and director Alfonso Albacete makes it fun.

Anything For Her (2008)

In this tight hour and thirty-six film, a high school teacher devises a daring plan to rescue his wrongfully imprisoned wife from jail. This one shows the lengths one man would go to for his wife.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)

Two friends on a summer holiday in Spain become enamoured with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has had a rough relationship, is about to re-enter the picture. It’s interesting to see that Woody Allen tackled something like this, and it is so unlike any of the rest of his filmography.

What If? (2013)

This film was previously titled The F Word so if you have trouble finding it with the changed title, that’s why. Daniel Radcliffe was coming off the hype train of the final Harry Potter film and he was trying to find work. He stumbled onto one of the most under-appreciated rom-coms.

Wallace is burned out from a string of failed relationships and he forms an instant bond with Chantry, who lives with her longtime boyfriend. Together, they puzzle out what it means if your best friend is also the love of your life.

The Notebook (2004)

A classic Nicholas Sparks novel that wasn’t that good, to begin with, but the movie made it a phenomenon. A poor yet passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman, giving her a sense of freedom.

However, social differences soon get in the way. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams had wonderful chemistry and made this movie worth the watch.

Two Weeks Notice (2002)

In the early 2000s, Hugh Grant was the dashing leading man everyone wanted to work with. In this rom-com, a lawyer decides that she’s used too much like a nanny by her boss, so she walks out on him.

Grant and Sandra Bullock had such a strong chemistry to make this one fun and memorable.

Sweet Home Alabama (2002)

Reese Witherspoon had a string of romantic comedies that made her the star she is today. A young woman who has reinvented herself as a New York City socialite must return home to Alabama to obtain a divorce from her husband after seven years of separation.

It’s a different love triangle that forms because all of her feelings come rushing back.

Unfaithful (2002)

Director Adrian Lyne is the only one who can touch an erotic thriller because he’s so good at making the audience feel everything. Richard Gere, Diane Lane and Olivier Martinez star in this steamy thriller.

A New York suburban couple’s marriage goes dangerously awry when the wife indulges in an adulterous fling.

My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)

You couldn’t touch Julia Roberts in the 90s and this rom-com is one of the best to come out of that decade. When a woman’s long-time friend reveals he’s engaged, she realizes that she loves him and sets to get him to break off the engagement with her own shenanigans.

It is days before the wedding and she realizes how insane this plan actually is when she has had years to tell him.
