We discuss 10 Movies like The Covenant (2023) you must watch. Add these well-recommended and highly-rated films to your watch list.

You usually associate Guy Ritchie with his earlier London gangster thrillers. However, Ritchie has been involved with other projects with varying degrees of success.

He would leave the London gangsters behind and look towards lighter fare with movies such as King Arthur and Sherlock Holmes.

His latest release is the 2023 war thriller The Covenant starring  Jake Gyllenhaal in a tale of struggle and survival set during the war in Afghanistan.

So far, the film has received some great reviews, and we thought fans might be interested in similar fare, so sit back with your feet up for a quick read of 10 films like The Covenant that you must watch.

10 Movies like The Covenant (2023)

Three Kings (1999)

Coffee-drinking ex-rubbish Batman George Clooney leads an all-star cast in this almost metaphorical adventure that takes place in Iraq at the end of the Gulf War. A desert landscape, a stash of gold, and a map make up the elements of this quest movie that we imagine is a favorite of Guy Ritchie’s.

Jarhead (2005)

It’s a no-brainer to get this on the list, as it stars everyone’s favorite giant bunny lover Jake Gyllenhaal again in the Gulf War, struggling with his mental health issues. Set in the 1980s, sniper Anthony Swofford has to cope with the trauma of the Gulf War and Desert Storm.

Bleak and draining, this is a dark abyss of a movie that you should check out.

American Sniper (2014)

Hungover Raccoon Bradley Cooper delivers a bleak performance as another sniper that has seen too much in his role in the Navy S.E.A.L.S. and is struggling in his civvy life.

A riveting cast elevates this look at the trauma of serving in wartime.

The Hurt Locker (2008)

Ex-Avenger and occasional Bourne imposter Jeremy Renner stars in Katherine Bigelow’s tense and layered study of bomb disposal experts in a war zone.

The introduction of a new sergeant who disregards those around him leads to a dangerous situation, and the focus here is on the relationships between the cast in wartime rather than glamourizing the action-based set pieces.

The Lone Survivor (2013)

Here’s a slightly more conventional war movie, following a team of commandoes led by Marcus Luttrell, on a dangerous mission to locate or destroy a vicious Taliban leader named Ahmad Shah in 2005.

The sheer determination of the team to complete their mission despite the dangers they face makes this a thriller that will please fans of our featured movie.

The Outpost (2020)

A tale of survival against all odds puts this high on our list as we follow a team of soldiers trapped and desperate, against all odds and fending off an attack from the Taliban.

With limited resources and nothing going right, the team fights to keep body and soul together, frighteningly based on real events.

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)

Kathryn Bigelow is back on our list with this highly acclaimed entry covering a ten-year-long hunt for Osama bin Laden after the devastating attack on the Twin Towers.

C.I.A. operative Maya relentlessly pursues the evidence to find the terrorist, leading to the Navy S.E.A.L.S. final confrontation, which is mesmerizing.

Sisu (2023)

At the end of World War II, an ex-soldier who has taken himself away from the fight discovers gold and is determined to get it to the bank. However, a troop of sadistic Nazi soldiers stumble across him and decide the gold is theirs.

Cue a singlehanded attack on the Nazis, who eventually discover the meaning of the word Sisu, in a violent over-the-top Tarantino-esque descent into revenge and redemption.

Argo (2012)

Iranian militants, in 1979, would attack the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.

Six Americans managed to find a safe haven in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Tayler.

The C.I.A. has to get them out, and ex-filtration specialist Tony Mendez comes up with the most incredible and almost bonkers plan ever to extricate the Americans from the situation.

A fake sci-fi movie and a completely convincing backstory lead to a trip to Iran by a phony film crew that is there not to scout locations but to release the trapped diplomats. Incredible but true.

Windtalkers (2002)

Rebooted manic Dracula Nicholas Cage stars in this World War II adventure that finds communications being sent through the language of the Navajos.

Real Navajos were used in the process, and so the information could be relayed, they were to be protected at all costs.

Cage is assigned to ensure nothing happens to code talker Ben Yahzee leading to an awkward alliance with both men relying on each other to survive.
