Summary

In this inciteful and exciting episode, fans learn that everything they thought they knew may not be what it seems.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 2, “The Princess’ Confession,” which contains spoilers.

Just when Masamune (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) thought France would be the perfect place to enact his revenge on Aki (voiced Ayaka Ohashi), it seems a wrench has been thrown into his plans by none other than a local and maybe even potential love interest.

While he and Aki are stuck teaching their new friend, Muriel (voiced by Miku Ito), about Japanese culture, his friends are enjoying the sites and maybe even finding love of their own.

However, it seems Muriel and her brother, Frank, aren’t the only people Masamune has to worry about, as last week, viewers learned that Kanetsugu (voiced by Mitsuki Saiga) is actually onto his and Yoshino’s (voiced by Inori Minase) plan. Hopefully, Masamune can appease Muriel and do something about Kanetsugu before he finds all his hard work going to waste.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 2 Recap

The episode opens where the last episode left off, with Kanetsugu confronting Yoshino about her deception and collusion with Masamune.

After finding out Yoshino is scheming with Masamune, Kanetsugu threatens to tell her parents instead of telling Masamune. They assume the adults finding out will be much worse for Yoshino, as her family has served Aki’s family for generations, and they end up being right about that assumption.

How did Aki and Masamune first meet?

Aki and Masamune first met as children when Aki’s dogs saved him from some bullies harassing him outside of her home.

She then agrees to train him so he won’t lose to the bullies if they come around again.

Why can’t Aki return Masamune’s feelings?

After revealing the story of her childhood, Aki tells Masamune she can’t return his feelings because she does not want to feel a repeat of the heartbreak that the other Masamune, aka Kanetsugu, put her through as a child.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 2 Ending Explained

In another flashback, the bullies return to get revenge on Masamune, who runs to Aki’s house for safety. From a curtained window, she calls Masamune “pig’s foot,” the very nickname that spawned his revenge plan.

In the present, Masamune loses his cool, yelling at Aki for lying about what happened when they were kids. She leaves, running into Kanetsugu, only to avoid him as well. The episode ends with Aki running to Yoshino, crying in her arms as Yoshino recalls the last time this happened eight years prior.

I was not expecting this season of Masamun-kun to get this intense this early on, but I was not upset about it. It was interesting to see Aki and Masamune’s childhood from a different perspective. From Masamune’s side, it always felt like a cut-and-dry case of bullying, but from Aki’s perspective, her actions were affectionate and meant to help him grow more confident. Now her actions toward Kanetsugu, the real villain and person she believes to be Masamune, make so much more sense.

So far, this season is starting on a much better note, adding more drama and intrigue to this romantic comedy anime. Here’s hoping it doesn’t use up all its steam too early and continues this level of excitement throughout the entire season.
