Season three of Sweet Magnolias ends in style with Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Ronnie’s (Brandon Quinn) vow renewal party. “Save My Place” does a great job of conveying the joys of community spirit as the townsfolk gather for the celebrations.

Of course, there is still the chance someone may turn up unexpectedly to ruin the festivities though.

Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Episode 10 Recap

As we begin the season finale, Erik and Dana Sue meet to make amends. Dana Sue offers Erik his old job back at Sullivan’s and asks if he will do her the honor of making a cake for her vow renewal.

Erik declines both offers though, he feels awful for how he has treated Dana Sue.

Why did Kathy destroy Dana Sue’s kitchen?

Erik finally confesses to betraying his boss and friend, in his break from Sullivans he went to work for Kathy, Dana Sue’s mortal enemy. He clarifies that he has quit since, and he did not know about the rivalry. Dana Sue realizes that Kathy trashed the kitchen in retaliation for Erik’s rejection. Erik can’t believe the damage he has caused, but he won’t accept Dana Sue’s forgiveness either.

Before the big event, Harlan’s father returns home from the hospital after recovering from his stroke. Skeeter and the gang have upgraded the house for him and built him a new ramp.

Harlan’s father is grateful but refuses Harlan’s help. He is a proud man who wants to appear stronger than he is.

Elsewhere, Helen suggests Peggy runs for office to become Serenity’s mayor. Helen wants to be her campaign manager. The teens film a fundraiser video in the playground, and Lily kisses Kyle in front of the other students.

At another margarita night, Maddie tells her friends that she is writing a children’s book, and Dana Sue reveals that Erik has been working for Kathy. He’s refused to return to Sullivans and they still don’t have a cake for the party.

Why does Annie break up with Jackson?

Annie breaks up with Jackson, stating that he is too selfish, that she deserves better. After splitting up with her boyfriend, Annie runs over and hugs Tyler. She admits that he was right all along.

Erik finally comes to his senses too; he swallows his pride and returns to Sullivans. He pitches to Dana Sue his cake ideas, suggesting a tower of cupcakes instead.

Dana Sue will only accept the cakes if Erik comes back full-time. He gladly accepts her offer. Cue another group hug.

Tyler tells his mother, Maddie, that he doesn’t want to go to college, stating that he wants a gap year to explore his options.

Maddie accepts, but deep down she is still concerned about Tyler’s future. Maddie’s own mother is making big decisions as well. Paula is going to stay with Jimmy, a friend of hers.

Where is the vow renewal held?

Then the finale moves on to the vow renewal. It is an adorable, feel-good event. The whole town gathers in a beautifully decorated barn for the celebrations. Dana Sue, and Ronnie are besides themselves, getting rather tearful at the beauty and splendor of it all.

This magical feeling is soon ruined though by the arrival of the couple’s enemy. Kathy shows up with Bill. This surprise appearance is actually a well-meaning one, though.

Kathy wants to apologize, spurred on by Bill’s new approach to life.

Kathy offers Ronnie their grandma’s tea set as a truce. Ronnie is overcome with emotions. He accepts the gift. Kathy makes a heartfelt apology, and Bill guides her away just before she ruins this perfect resolution.

Pastor June then delivers the vow renewal itself. The town celebrates with a wholesome party. Annie and Tyler are seen holding hands.

Then later, the trio of Annie, Lily, and CeCe seems to usher in the next iteration of the Sweet Magnolias, possibly implying a future version of the series to come.
