Summary

The perfect follow-up to last week’s episode three that still manages to set itself apart, especially in the last few minutes.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 4, “Hidden Inventory 4,” which contains spoilers.

With both Gojo (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura) and Geto (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) on the mission to get Riko (voiced by Anna Nagase) to Tengen, it seemed nothing could go wrong.

Yet, last week, Toji Fushigoro proved to be one step ahead, incapacitating Gojo before murdering Riko in cold blood. It was a shock that most anime fans never saw coming, and one manga fan has been dreading seeing animated since the chapter first premiered.

It’s now up to Geto to take down Toji, but after seeing his abilities, that may be easier said than done for the second-year student.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

The episode opens with Geto immediately unleashing one of his cursed spirits on Toji, only for the assassin to destroy it. He then reveals he has already sent Fly Heads to distract and cause chaos amongst Jujutsu High.

How does Toji keep from being detected through cursed energy?

Despite having no cursed energy of his own, Toji carries a cursed spirit and cursed weapons that should make him easily detectable to sorcerers. However, Toji keeps from being detected through cursed energy by making his cursed Spirit so small that he can fit it inside his body by swallowing it, thus keeping his presence invisible.

Did Toji kill Kuroi?

It is unknown if Toji killed Kuroi because when Geto asks, Toji replies that he is not sure. He says she is probably dead, implying he attacked her before killing Riko, but that since he didn’t care about her life, there’s a chance she could still be alive.

How did Gojo survive after being attacked by Toji?

In order to survive after being attacked by Toji, Gojo reveals he used a reverse cursed technique. Instead of retaliating, he put all his focus into this technique by taking the negative energy of cursed energy, which is incapable of regenerating the body and multiplying that energy against itself to create positive energy, thus resulting in a successful reversed cursed technique.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 4 Ending Explained

Toji and Gojo engage in battle, and despite knowing all about his abilities, Toji still feels as if something is wrong. Suddenly, Gojo unleashes purple, a combination of both his red and blue techniques, mortally wounding Toji by blasting a hole in his side.

Before he dies, Toji tells Gojo that his son, Megumi, will soon be sold back to his old family, the Zenin Clan, and to do what he wants with that information.

In the Star Religious Group’s House of Star, Geto finds Gojo carrying out Riko’s corpse as the members watch, applauding. Gojo apologizes, saying it’s not Geto’s fault, before asking if they should kill the Star Religious Group members.

However, Geto says there’s no point in killing random believers. Gojo wonders if they even need a point, but Geto says that is the most important part.

I honestly didn’t think anything could be better than the last episode, but this episode was just as good, if not better. In terms of animation, it’s clear just how much effort studio MAPPA puts into ensuring these fights look top-tier, but that’s only part of what makes this series great.

I found myself on the edge of my seat, completely immersed in the plot and wondering how things were going to end.

While, as viewers, we knew Gojo was not dead, seeing how everything played out was still just as exciting to watch. With one more episode left in this arc, I can only imagine how things will transpire from here.
