The 2023 South Korean comedy-drama Dream is a quirky and off-beat movie with a special message and a premise that many sports fans will embrace. It tells the story of a professional soccer player in hot water after assaulting a journalist.
As part of his probation, he became involved in training a group of homeless people interested in participating in the Homeless World Cup Tournament.
As well as the training of his rag-tag team, Yoon Hong-dae must contend with a documentary crew that has decided to follow his progress as they produce a film of their own, covering the disgruntled soccer player’s journey with the team.
This leads to friction, as the film crew interferes with the project, and emotions run high as the competition approaches and tensions rise.
The film follows the ups and downs of the situation, providing plenty of comedic moments and more emotional beats, pleasing soccer fans and movie fans with its approach to a complex subject.
So far, there have been mixed reviews for the project, and although it performed well on its theatrical release, it does seem to have fallen short of recouping its budget.

Where was the Dream movie on Netflix filmed – a breakdown of filming locations
South Korea
The film had a troubled production schedule mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down production on everything.
Filming started on May 7, 2020, in South Korea and would finish in October of the same year.
However, further location work was required, and planned filming in Europe had to be rescheduled due to Covid restrictions.
This meant the production would be shelved until 2022.
Hungary, Europe
It was arranged that filming would restart in Europe in March of 2022. Originally, location work was to be done in Colombia, but this was changed due to scheduling and availability problems.
The film’s director, Lee Byeong-heon, would make the initial trip to Europe, specifically Hungary, to scope for the locations required to complete the project. Despite complications with the actors’ schedules and the overseas locations, the film would wrap in April 2022.
Budapest was used as a central location in filming the film’s final scenes. The games were actually rehearsed in South Korea but filmed in Budapest. The shoot was so cold that the visible breath of the players was edited out in post-production, but just like the team in the movie, the crew triumphed against the odds to complete this film.
