Summary

After a surprisingly dull first half, the episode picks up but still leaves viewers wondering where the series is headed now.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 5, “So we Became a Couple,” which contains spoilers.

Last week, in one of the most surprising episodes of the series so far, Masamune (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) learned the truth behind the “pig’s foot” nickname.

After realizing his perception of Aki (voiced by Ayaka Ohashi) had been wrong all along, he took off to save her from the deceitful Kanetsugu (voiced by Mitsuki Saiga), but his first reaction wasn’t exactly the most tactful.

After watching Masamune punch her fiance, Aki may not be as eager to hear the truth, but even if she does, there’s no guarantee she’ll believe him anyway.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 5 Recap

The episode opens with Kanetsugu hitting Masamune back after being punched. They then call Masamune shallow and accuse him of being the same type of popular jerk as everyone else.

Masamune finally admits he was the same kid from eight years ago, and after clarifying once, Aki believes him.

How does Aki realize Kanetsugu is actually a female?

After being hit by Masamune, Kanetsugu’s clothes end up disheveled, causing Aki to wonder why her fiance has the cleavage of a girl. It finally hits her and Masamune that Kanetsugu is actually a female.

Masamune admits he did not tell Aki about what Yoshino did eight years ago because he did not see the point and was afraid of exposing his revenge plot in the process.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained

Masamune meets Yoshino at the park where they used to plot his revenge. They clear things up, and he then admits just how hard he finds dating Aki to be. He begs for Yoshino’s help, and she tells him that Aki’s birthday is coming up, so he should spend it with her before telling him they can no longer meet up.

After such an exciting episode, this one felt a little dull at first. However, it did manage to pick up more in the second half, with things really getting interesting in the end.

Somehow, the relationship between Masamune and Yoshino has become the most interesting part of the second season, which I did not expect at all.

For only the fifth episode of the season, it felt weirdly like a finale at first. I’m hoping this doesn’t mean characters like Kanetsugu will disappear just because they seemed to get some closure. It already feels that characters like Fujinomiya and Kojiro already have so much less screen time as it is.

With that said, I genuinely have no idea where the rest of the season is going now that Masamune has finally admitted the truth to Aki. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, I am not quite sure yet.
