The penultimate episode of season two, “Subspace Rhapsody,” boldly takes the Star Trek series into new, unexplored territory, tackling the musical genre. In this musical-themed installment, the crew is infected with the desire to sing and dance, confessing to their deepest, darkest emotions.

- Spock researches the strange events, realizing that they have unlocked an improbability field, which includes a musical reality. They are now tethered to this field. Pike wants to close it up before anything dangerous happens.
- Spock and Uhura investigate the data further. Meanwhile, crew members break out into song and dance, revealing their darkest secrets and deepest emotions. Una tells James to be honest with his team. La’an worries about her romance with James.
- They fire at the fold, causing the improbability field to expand even more. It starts to affect the entire fleet, including Batel’s ship. Batel and Pike argue via a song.
- Spock runs simulations; if they try to destroy the field, it could be catastrophic. At the same time, they find out that the Klingons plan to do just that. They need to stop them at all costs.
- Christine celebrates getting into the fellowship. She falls out with Spock.
- La’an confesses to James about her time-travel romance. James is dating someone else, though, and is about to become a father.
- Uhura analyses the patterns; they need to create a showstopper tune to make the data spike, shattering the field in the process. Uhura instigates a grand finale musical number that destroys the entire field.
- Pike and Batel make amends. La’an tells Una that she is glad she took a risk with James.
- Uhura confirms that all is back to normal on the Enterprise.
