We discuss 10 TV Shows like Foundation you must watch. Add these well-recommended and highly-rated shows to your watch list.

If you don’t have Apple TV Plus, then you are missing out on some pretty incredible series with gorgeous productions like Foundation. The series was released in 2021 and is based on the book series written by Isaac Asimov. There are a total of seven books in the series, and the story has been adapted quite well for television.

This is a complex saga of humans scattered on planets throughout the galaxy, all living under the rule of the Galactic Empire.

Of course, the sci-fi/fantasy conventions are the same, but it’s the world-building and character dynamics that draw audiences in.

The series listed below all have compelling stories and unique characters that audiences have connected with to create they’re own following. Some series have lasted for years, and others have had a short run. Unfortunately, for sci-fi/fantasy series, there’s no in-between but shows like Foundation can help change that. The television climate is not the same as it was in the late 60s/early 70s, and the demand for series of these genres isn’t the same.

10 TV Shows like Foundation

Raised by Wolves (2020)

This series was introduced under the HBO Max banner and was a draw for the platform. Unfortunately, it was a short-lived series, and many fans were sad about the outcome. The story is simple and about androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet.

Y: The Last Man (2021)

This series was also short-lived and only had one season on FX/Hulu. Some people wanted to bring it back, and the series even started trending after they found out it had been canceled. This was set in a post-apocalyptic world, and the last surviving male human on the planet, Y, must navigate this lost world. It is based on the comic series Y: The Last Man

Snowpiercer (2020)

This series ran for three seasons on TNT, and Daveed Diggs was at the forefront. This sci-fi series takes place seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, and the remnants of humanity inhabit a perpetually moving train that circles the globe, where class warfare, social injustice, and the politics of survival play out.

Westworld (2016)

It’s hard to believe that Westworld only lasted four seasons because the concept of the show is what made it so intriguing and kept audiences coming back. At the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past waits a world in which every human appetite can be indulged without consequences.

Altered Carbon (2018)

This series was set in the future, where consciousness is digitized and stored. These concepts involving technology are not that far-fetched, and that’s why these stories are worrisome. A prisoner returns to life in a new body and must solve a mind-bending murder to win his freedom. Hot off Suicide Squad, Joel Kinnaman was a hit in this series, and then it just lost all momentum, unfortunately.

Firefly (2002)

If you’ve heard Nathan Fillion’s name all over the place and don’t understand where he came from or why he’s that big of a name, he started out on Firefly. Five hundred years in the future, a renegade crew aboard a small spacecraft tries to survive as they travel the unknown parts of the galaxy and evade warring factions as well as authority agents out to get them.

Game of Thrones (2011)

This Fantasy TV series shook the globe and was a phenomenon for 10 years. It’s hard to have a television show rock the entire world and have everyone come back every Sunday to HBO to watch as a community. The series is about nine noble families who fight for control over the lands of Westeros while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.

Babylon 5 (1993)

This throwback action adventure was underappreciated at the time by sci-fi enjoyers. In the mid 23rd century, the Earth Alliance space station Babylon 5, located in natural territory, is a major focal point for political intrigue, racial tensions, and various wars over the course of five years. The series ran from 1993-1998 and had a cult following.

Battlestar Galactica (1978)

The further back we go, the more sci-fi there is on television! It began with Star Trek, and it just kept evolving as it was in demand at the time. Audiences were fascinated by the galaxy and the future, especially after the moon landing. This series takes place after the destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Mankind; the last major fighter carrier leads a makeshift fugitive fleet on a desperate search for the legendary planet Earth.

The Orville (2017)

If you want some humor with your sci-fi, then Seth MacFarlane delivered something great. Fortunately for many fans, the show is still running and seems to stand the test of time in today’s streaming age. This is set 400 years in the future and finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.
