Summary
The focus on an unnecessary side plot is meant to bring Masamune clarity but only ends up hurting the pacing and overall momentum of the season.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 7, “There’s No Point in This Confession,” which contains spoilers.
Since turning their relationship real, things haven’t been going as smoothly as one would think for Masamune (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) and Aki (voiced by Ayaka Ohashi).
In trying to make their relationship stronger, it seems he might have just made things worse, potentially exposing his old revenge plan to her. Although the lack of subtitles made it hard to know just had bad Masamune just messed up, judging by Aki’s reactions, it’s not looking good for him.
The question is, will he be able to fix his mistake, or is this the end of him and Aki already?
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 7 Recap
The episode opens with Fujinomiya enjoying a New Year’s meal with her family. While grabbing sake refills, she runs into an old family member who comments on how attractive she’s grown up to be since they last saw one another.
What is causing Masamune’s hives?
After visiting the doctor, Masamune learns his hives could be stress-related.
He thought it may have been a food allergy but sees how stress could be a factor considering his new relationship and the lie he’s been trying to uphold to protect Yoshino.
How did Masamune and Fujinomiya first meet?
Masamune and Fujinomiya first met at a wedding party as children.
In a flashback, we see Masamune’s mother, Hayase, encouraging him to befriend her after noticing they were the same age. Masamune then offers some of his food to an obviously nervous Fujinomiya.
Does Masamune kiss Fujinomiya?
When Fujinomiya confesses to Masamune for a second time and attempts to kiss him, her driver stops it from happening. She then attempts to kick Masamune off the premises.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 7 Ending Explained
As Fujinomiya assures her driver things are fine, Masamune notices his hives have suddenly returned. On his way home, he notices a girl collapse on the sidewalk, only to see it’s Yoshino.
I feared that without the revenge plot, this series might struggle a bit to keep things interesting, and that has definitely been the case these last few episodes. While her advice toward the end was good, the rest of today’s Fujinomiya side plot felt painfully forced and unnecessary, considering she’d already confessed once before.
It’s honestly just starting to make me feel bad for her, as it seems doubtful that she and Masamune will end up together, but we’ll see.
There were subtitles on texts and writing today, which was incredibly helpful in understanding the plot this time around. Knowing that the revenge page in Masamune’s notebook didn’t specifically mention Aki by name definitely changes things a bit.
It makes the whole situation a little more mysterious and builds some tension. It makes you wonder just what direction they’re going to take that in, especially with Masamune feeling as guilty as he is.
While I understand trying to introduce new conflicts and build some suspense in Masamune and Aki’s relationship, I hope the show finds its footing soon.
The drama in the first few episodes was intriguing because it didn’t feel forced, but it has started to fizzle recently without the revenge plot to carry it.
