We discuss the ending of the 2023 South African Netflix movie Love, Sex and 30 Candles which will contain spoilers.

Love, Sex and 30 Candles is a romance drama that explores womanhood and female friendships. The importance of this film is to show that life can change in an instant so you have to stop worrying about how old you’re turning and to just enjoy the life you’re living.

There is no deadline at the age of thirty for anyone. There is no checklist for anyone because of how fast life moves. There are many ways to live a life, and there’s also no correct way to live it. The four women in this film go through many ups and downs in the span of a year, but they will always be there for one another.

The beauty of this film lies in the communication between friends and the loyalty they have to one another. It’s important to hold onto friendships even when they do something that doesn’t sit well with you. There are ways to forgive and to be honest with one another, and these four friends explore that.

Does Nolwazi keep her child?

Nolwazi’s pregnancy is what kicks off the movie, but she doesn’t seem happy about it. After the audience learns that she had slept with her best friend’s boyfriend at the time, she feels horrible. Right after she tells him that she’s pregnant with his child, he leaves her and tells her to never bring this up again.

She tells him that she is going to keep the baby and do what she needs to do for herself. The second he breaks it off with her, he turns to Dikeledi who has a child with him and proposes to her. He treated her unfairly at the beginning by cheating on her and making her feel unworthy of love. In order for their family to grow she accepts the proposal without knowing what had happened.

Does Sade stay with Winston?

After Winston’s bachelor party, he returns home incredibly drunk and starts yelling at Sade. Apparently, a client of his told him that he slept with her years ago and that she slept with many people in her twenties.

Winston saw this as an embarrassment and hit her a couple of times. She is traumatized by that moment, but when she tells her friends the next day, and they say that the wedding is off, she doesn’t answer.

Instead, Sade goes through with the wedding knowing full well that Winston could strike her again, but she doesn’t want to be judged for her decision. Even after the marriage, he continues to abuse her, and Winston wants her to cut off her friends as well.

How does Dikeledi find out?

At Sade and Winston’s wedding, she overhears Nolwazi and Dikeledi’s fiance speaking about what they’re going to tell her. It comes out all at once, and Dikeledi loses it on both of them, and she leaves immediately.

She no longer wants to talk to any of them because of the secrets they kept, and she feels humiliated. Even after the wedding, the three of them go to her house on her birthday to try and celebrate with her to move on and stay friends. But Dikeledi stands strong and tells them how much they hurt her by lying to her. She can’t trust them. But when Linda’s mother passes away, Dikeledi goes to her and says to her, putting things in the past.
