We discuss whether there will be a Season 5 of the Netflix series The Upshaws and its renewed or canceled status.
I never really thought about it before, but there are not a lot of sitcoms out there. There was a time on network television when a good sitcom would often be a tent pole of the schedules, and managing to cultivate a popular one could prove incredibly lucrative.
Juggernauts such as Seinfeld and Friends would be incredibly influential, making their cast into stars and household names. Nowadays, there are a handful of such shows.
Perhaps the changing viewing patterns of people and the rise of streaming services have diminished the lure of the sitcom, and nowadays, there are not as many as there used to be.
However, one such show has managed to crack the formula and become a fan favorite with a strong audience. Netflix’s The Upshaws is a great example of a sitcom.
The show was created by Wanda Sykes and Regina Y Hicks, and Wanda Sykes also has a main role in the show. We follow a working-class African-American family through various ups and downs in their everyday lives.
The Upshaws has recently dropped part four, much to the delight of fans, and already there is one question that everyone wants to know: Will there be a Season 5 of The Upshaws?
Will there be a Season 5 of the Netflix series The Upshaws – renewed or canceled status
Although there are no official confirmations of another season of the show, we are pretty hopeful that there will be more to come from the creators behind the series.
Sitcoms are pretty easy to put together, assets are re-used in most episodes, keeping costs down, and the cast that plays the roles often find it easy to get into character as they know the parts so well.
The show is also top-rated and seems to have no signs of slowing down, so the educated guess would be that there is more to come.
The current state of Hollywood and media, in general, may mean that releasing details about a new set of episodes just now might not play well, so that could be one of the reasons why there has been no official green light yet.
Worth noting is the unusual approach to the content that is released. Episodes seem to be referred to as parts. For example, season two of the show was split into two separate parts, and the latest season also takes the same approach.
So, if it follows the pattern of the previous run, it seems inevitable that there will be a part two of the current season, especially with the story still having loose ends that must be resolved.
