Summary
When it feels like the series is heading in a direction that makes sense, they backtrack for the sake of dragging out Aki and Masamune’s inevitable reunion.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 8, “Masamune has a surprising realization,” which contains spoilers.
While the last few episodes of Masamune-kun haven’t been nearly as exciting as the first few, there’s still plenty of time for the series to turn things around.
In fact, things could pick up sooner rather than later, with Masamune (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) running into Yoshino (voiced Inori Minase) again after ending their friendship. He hasn’t had the easiest time with Aki (voiced by Ayaka Ohashi), especially without Yoshino’s advice.
Maybe this chance encounter could be exactly what he needs to turn his luck around before Aki finds out about the revenge plan.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 8 Recap
The episode opens with Aki wandering the mansion in search of Yoshino with zero success. After running into her sister, she learns Yoshino has been sent out on a shopping errand because she knows Yoshino would likely never do anything for herself if not made to.
Why is Masamune carrying Yoshino on his back?
Masamune ends up carrying Yoshino on his back after she sprains her ankle, attempting to run away from him.
Despite trying to walk on her own, she is clearly too injured to make it without his help.
What does Masamune realize when Yoshino touches him?
When Yoshino touches Masamune, he feels a strange sensation, realizing how he truly feels about their relationship.
He hugs her just to be sure before admitting that it was never Aki and that the most fun he’s ever had was when he was with Yoshino.
What advice does Kanetsugu offer Aki?
When Aki admits she hasn’t felt strong enough to confront things she’s been struggling with, Kanetsugu advises her to stop trying so hard to keep up with lies.
She tells Aki the worst lie she can tell is the one she tells to her heart and to admit what she really wants.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 8 Ending Explained
Back at the mansion, Aki helps Yoshino patch up her ankle, causing Yoshino to feel especially guilty.
Masamune wakes up in a sweat after dreaming of Yoshino and thinks he may have been wrong about his feelings after all.
Although still a bit slow, this episode did have a few good moments. I was happy to see Kanetsugu involved again, and this encounter definitely felt like it gave more closure to her storyline overall.

Masamune suddenly realizing he may have feelings for Yoshino was welcome, as their relationship always seemed to teeter that line. It was much more believable than Masamune and Fujinomiya. I enjoyed that realization and what it might mean for the rest of the series, so for the episode to backtrack right at the end was rather annoying.
The way the series is dragging out Masamune and Aki’s reunion is becoming too longwinded, especially when his romantic interests only seem to be waning with every week while it’s clear she’s in love with him.
I thought this was all part of him realizing his true feelings for Aki, but I don’t see how things could end positively at this point when the chemistry is lacking, and it feels like the show is doing everything in its power to push him toward other people.
