Summary
“Gone Is the Illusion of Order” finally delivers what this show promised from the beginning, but it’s too bad it took many bad episodes to get here.
This recap of the Paramount+ series Special Ops: Lioness Season 1Eepisode 8, “Gone Is the Illusion of Order,” contains spoilers, including an open discussion of the ending of Special Ops: Lioness Season 1.
We’ve reached the season finale of Special Ops: Lioness. Although we witnessed firsthand what happens in the first episode, how everything came about with Cruz and Aaliyah leading up to the bombing should answer plenty of unanswered questions. Plus, how will the White House handle the aftermath of Joe and her team keeping the mission a secret?
Special Ops: Lioness Season 1 Episode 8 Recap
Joe prepares Cruz with some technology to prepare her for the mission and extraction. Byron heads to the White House, where he gets an ass chewing by Edwin for playing the game the way he wanted instead of giving them control. They tell Byron they want to pull Cruz out, but Kaitlyn tells him that isn’t an option because of the inability to contact her.
What happens between Ehsan and Cruz?
Ehsan begins questioning Cruz about what happened in New York and why she repeatedly left the room crying. Cruz tells him a story, but he doesn’t believe her and slaps her. He tells her that Aaliyah is his wife tomorrow, and she (Cruz) will be gone. He mentions that if she mentions this chat with Aaliyah, he will throw her into the sea, but Cruz fires, saying she wishes he would. Although Ehsan’s bodyguard suggests taking her to the airport, Ehsan knows that Aaliyah won’t be happy if she leaves.
Finally, Cruz and Aaliyah meet up to talk about the upcoming nuptials. Aaliyah tells her that Ehsan knows and it will probably be the last time she is allowed to go to New York. She breaks down what her future looks like and isn’t happy about it, but knows it’s part of the plan.
As Kaitlyn watches on via satellite, so does the White House, and it is confirmed that Amrohi is on site. Byron calls Kaitlyn again to find out if they can pull the asset, and the answer remains no.

Aaliyah comes to Cruz’s room to inform her that she doesn’t want to get married. Cruz says for her to tell Ehsan, and she said she did, and he didn’t care. Although Aaliyah begins to kiss Cruz, she pulls away, saying she can’t do this. Cruz storms out of the room to find some water.
What does Ehsan discover about Cruz?
Ehsan runs a background check on Cruz’s face and pulls nothing in the system. However, after searching and searching, he finally got a match. It reveals her full name, and a couple of clicks later, a picture of Cruz in her full Marine uniform appears, and he storms out to find her.
Special Ops: Lioness Season 1 Ending Explained
Who dies in “Gone Is the Illusion of Order”?
While on the hunt for water, Cruz runs into Amrohi. The two begin conversing about gelato when Ehsan storms into the room, saying she’s a Marine. Cruz fends off Ehsan by stabbing him and ends up killing him and, shortly after, makes quick work of Amrohi, stabbing him multiple times and slicing his throat before igniting the extraction necklace.
We see gunfire ensue, with everyone trying to shoot at Cruz as she tries to get to the water. Joe and her team start to head to the mainland to rescue Cruz. After a big shootout, Joe is able to grab Cruz, and she and her team get out of Dodge. Cruz tells Kaitlyn she completed the mission and tells Byron the news. Byron tells the White House, who aren’t happy about what happened.
Cruz and Joe have words over the monster that she created within her. She tells her she quits and wants no part of her or this program anymore. The season ends with Joe’s husband comforting her as she cries in his arms about how hard the mission was.

Amazing Series and the Finale was so suspenseful and fantastic! What was going on in Aaliyah‘s mind in the end? What was the World impact? Can’t wait to see a season 2 with the entire cast who were exceptional!
I love this show! I want more! I was on the edge of my seat
Loved it! I can’t wait for season two. The final episode was suspenseful and I can’t help but wonder if Aaliyah is going to be out for revenge.
The series and the finale were suspenseful and grabbed interest!
The most telling revelation of the whole series occurred when Kaitlyn returned home and her husband tells her that Brent Crude had dropped 8$ in overnight trading!
Said a lot
waiting for season 2
Awesome series and it really picked up to being a nail biter at ep 8
I absolutely loved it and there was no copout at the end. Nobody was cheering the victory and you were able to see the toll. I was truly heartbroken for the Aalayah. Can’t wait for season 2 (hopefully)?
I thought it was good. Hope for another season!
I loved every minute of the episode. I hope it gets renewed. I’m a Taylor Sheridan fan.
Impressive series! However, the finale required some moments of suspension of reality. Why was Amrohi alone, in his underwear and without his bodyguards? And in the (segregated) women’s area of the compound. And, high school track notwithstanding, it was pretty incredible that Cruz outran all the automatic firepower aimed at her, to meet the extraction team unscathed.
But the ending was poignant and thought-provoking. What if all the terrorism and tragedy and the emotional toll on the missions’ operators are really for nothing more than geopolitical strategy and the price of oil?
I love this series. Had me anticipating every episodes. The ending was predictable for me because terrorism continues and so it had to end establishing that. Cruz statement about aaliyah having children and learning about their grandfather’s death will cause the perpetuation. I was wondering all along if the incident would make aaliyah becoming the monster in the next season? ? let’s see

Why was Amrohi alone on the women’s side of the compound? No body guards insight, strange? So many bullets flying why wasn’t Cruz hit? Guards had to be good with their weapons, to guard that compound. And they all missed Cruz.
Enjoyed the series for the most part, but did not like the writers outing Cruz’s real identity as a marine (laptop left open), as now there will be a bounty on her head and the US caught with their pants down as well as assassins
Why is Kaitlyn ‘s husband allowed to call her anytime ,anywhere? Can she call him during brain surgery?
I really want to know what happens to Aaliyah. Like I want a spinoff that shows the aftermath of her father and fiancé being murdered by her only “friend” whom she thought she loved.
A good Season 1. The lead up to the ending would be better with Cruz fighting off guards before been rescued. A longer gun fight between Joe’s team and the guards. No news reports from the deaths. Maybe that will start Season 2. Can’t wait to see.
Continue this series, don’t leave us hanging! It’s a terrific show!
I didn’t like the ending. Loved the show. Why was it so easy for Ehsan to find out Cruz’s true identity?
Loved the series, hoping for part 2. Just want to know how was he able to find out her true identity. That puts a target on the U.S. all of her information should have been wiped clean. And no way should Jo’s husband be able to contact her whenever he wants. But great series
I loved the whole season! And want to watch more of it about what happens to the entire original cast of characters!
