Set against the dramatic backdrop of Queensland’s Northern tropics, Love Is in the Air follows seaplane pilot Dana and London-based finance expert William as they figure out they’re meant for each other. Dana is the pilot and co-owner of a small aviation business started by her late mother. While she prefers to concentrate her efforts on the not-for-profit humanitarian aspect of the business, her father, Jeff, would like to see his company turn a profit.
In London, William decides to impress his father, Duncan (the equity firm owner), by suggesting they close down Dana’s business and sell it for parts. His father sends him to Queensland to personally get the job done.
But when William does arrive in a small picturesque town and gets to know Dana, Jeff, and their one airplane, Harriet, he’s convinced to try and save their small family business. However, a cyclone and Dana learning his true motives threaten their budding love story and the aviation company.
Dana berates William about his plan to dissolve her business, but the two must stop arguing because the cyclone is about to hit, and Jeff is missing.
While Dana ventures outside in the rain to look for her dad, she’s unable to find him. Thankfully, William also went outside and managed to locate and rescue an injured Jeff.
As grateful as Dana is for William saving her father’s life, she’s still furious at him and his equity company. However, William then gives an impassionate speech about how much he cares, which softens her heart a little.
The day after the massive storm, William joins Dana on several emergency supply runs across the islands. While helping with the humanitarian effort, William sees how valuable the aviation company is to the tropic community.
Back at the hangar, William and Dana are just about to kiss for the first time, but they’re interrupted by Jeff with awful news. William’s dad shut down the aviation company and didn’t even bother to wait for his son to fly back to London first.
While William does call and tries pleading with Duncan, there’s nothing he can say to change the old financier’s heart.
Several days later, Dana, Jeff, and their sole employee, Nikki, are cleaning their offices. However, Dana soon gets an idea that could save the company, so she wastes no time flying to London.
In London, Dana barges into what looks like a very boring board meeting and demands to be heard. Her brilliant plan to save the company involves asking the equity firm for more money so she can expand and buy a couple more planes.
Unsurprisingly, Duncan is less than impressed with Dana’s speech. But as he’s about to call security to remove her from the premises, William steps up and quits his job on the spot.
How does William save Dana’s company?
William promises to work with Dana and help her grow the dying aviation business. Somehow, the prospect of his son moving halfway across the world on a whim softens Duncan’s resolve. Eventually, Duncan allows Dana to keep her business. As soon as they walk out of the board meeting, William and Dana finally share their first kiss.
The final scene shows William now living in Queensland and helping run the now-thriving aviation business. Of course, he and Dana are happily together. To show how professional she’s become, Dana starts dressing like a commercial airline pilot while flying one of the newer planes.
