Ted provided an uncanny experience with a bad-mouthing teddy bear, bringing an exhilarating comedy feature – I break down ten similar movies that are alike. After a fairly long run with Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane wanted to make some movies. In doing so, he created Ted. A fuzzy little teddy bear with a potty mouth who is the childhood best friend of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg).
John’s childhood wish of bringing his teddy bear to life came true. Now, he must decide between keeping the relationship with the bear, Ted, or his girlfriend, Lori (Mila Kunis).
The films on this list all have close relationships that are put to the test when under pressure. These films have great comedic actors who delivered some of their best performances. Some of these films are cult classics; after watching them, you’ll understand why people rave about them.
The Hangover (2009)
Ed Helms, Zack Galifianakis, and Bradley Cooper are the comedy trio of the early 2000s that we didn’t know we needed. In The Hangover, three buddies wake up from a bachelor party in Las Vegas with no memory of the previous night and the bachelor missing. They make their way around the city in order to find their friend before his wedding. What unfolds is the most bizarre party night in Vegas that you will ever see.
A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)
Writer-director Seth MacFarlane brings his fans a fun Western with some great actors. As a cowardly farmer begins to fall for the mysterious new woman in town, he must put his newly found courage to the test when her husband, a notorious gun-slinger, announces his arrival. Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson, Neil Patrick Harris, and Sarah Silverman round out the stellar cast.
Dirty Grandpa (2016)
The best part of Robert De Niro’s career has been his comedies. He has taken many roles, but Dirty Grandpa is his raunchiest.
Right before his wedding, an uptight guy, Jason Kelly (Zac Efron), is tricked into driving his grandfather, Richard (De Niro), a lecherous former Army Lieutenant Colonel, to Florida for Spring Break.
21 Jump Street (2012)
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller stepped on the scene with 21 Jump Street, which became *the* comedy of the 2010s. It is a revamped version of the original television series in the late 80s, and they still managed to pay homage to it. A pair of underachieving cops, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum), are sent back to high school to blend in and bring down a synthetic drug ring.
Role Models (2008)
Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott are two businessmen who have been selling energy drinks. After their wild behavior at one sales meeting, they are advised to put their anger in check and enroll in a Big Brother program to have some responsibility. The character dynamics in Role Models is the best aspect of the film because everyone has a unique personality. The cast is great, and they work really well together.
Superbad (2007)
Co-writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg made a teen comedy that made history as the “go-to” teen comedy of the 2000s. Two co-dependent high school seniors, Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Jonah Hill) are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.
American Pie (1999)
Before American Pie, there were films like Porky’s, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Revenge of the Nerds that covered the raunchy teen comedies in the 80s. In the late 90s, American Pie became a phenomenon and a cult classic. The premise is simple: four teenage boys enter a pact to lose their virginity by prom night. The pact is a tale as old as time on prom night, but the lengths these four go to are on another level.
Old School (2003)
From director Todd Phillips comes an R-rated comedy with Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell. Three friends attempt to recapture their glory days by opening up a fraternity near their alma mater. It’s definitely a throwback film with best friends who want to relive a period of their lives where they had zero responsibility. To this day, it’s still a favorite among men everywhere. It’s a great film to watch with your boys.
Anchorman (2004)
Before Adam McKay brought his comedic talents to certain serious subjects, he made golden comedies. Anchorman is another cult classic starring Will Ferrell. In the 1970s, an anchorman’s stint as San Diego’s top-rated newsreader is challenged when an ambitious newswoman becomes his co-anchor. These characters are definitely weird, but they are hilarious.
This is the End (2013)
Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen come together again in this star-studded horror/comedy. Six Los Angeles celebrities are stuck in James Franco’s house after a series of devastating events just destroyed the city. Inside, the group not only has to face the apocalypse but themselves. What goes on between these well-known actors in this particular situation is hilarious, and their banter is what makes this movie one of the best in their filmographies.
