Summary
Lights, camera, action, it’s all about the socials and secrets as Marie takes to the stage and Andre seeks the truth.
Episode 2 of Gen V really gets going with its upbeat, high-intensity music and then falls back into safe story-telling mode with little action. “First Day” delves into Marie’s past with her family and the present situation at the University. It also follows Andre closely as he begins investigating what happened to his best friend, Golden Boy.
Everyone is reeling from the tragic events of Episode 1. In this episode, a couple of storylines run side by side as we get to know more about other characters and are introduced to a couple of exciting possible plots.
Ashley is back, trying to control and manage the situation, as always, with a full head of hair this time. Everyone in the university knows their rankings, which causes jealousy, insecurities, and pressure among the students.
Due to their heroic actions in the first episode, Marie and Andre are branded by Vought as the new “Guardians of Godolkin”—it’s a mouthful, and it’s all about looking like a united front. Andre is used to the spotlight, but Marie wants to be kept out of the drama surrounding the tragedies.
In acting class, Emma befriends and trusts the wrong person who uses her secrets against her to gain more followers. Marie and Emma aren’t as close in this episode as they were in the first — they need one another.
Dean Shetty takes Marie under her wing and allows her into the Crime Fighting classes for her bravery, even though we all know Marie ran away like a coward in Episode 1. Jordan can’t contain their jealousy over Marie getting credit for fighting Golden Boy.
There’s one section where a girl is sucking her tail, trying to be sexy for social media, and this made me feel sick — but this is the creepy, crazy content we want from this series.
Jordan pleads with Marie to give them some credit while live on TV, as she will have all the control and the audience’s attention there. Marie states that she’ll take what she can get and doesn’t owe them anything. As she’s getting ready to go live on air, she’s going through her script and incorporating telling them about Jordan. After getting terrible news, she backtracks and does not give Jordan any credit.
There Whereabouts of Marie’s Sister
It is hinted that Marie’s sister Annabelle is still alive, and Marie is desperate to find her. Just before Marie goes live on air, she’s told Annabelle had emailed to say she wanted nothing to do with her. This completely throws her off, and the nice-girl vibe we’ve been getting is blown up when she complies with everything written for her to say.
The episode begins with a PR disaster trying to be controlled and maintained as much as possible. Secrets unfold slowly but surely, and it’s only a matter of time until Andre figures things out. Marie doesn’t want to get involved in the “drama” and instead is working on her popularity and media presence to get ahead.
Towards the end, Marie is ready to go live on air and will either crash and burn or become one of the most famous students at Goldokin University. Before going live she gets some upsetting news and falls back on her idea of mentioning Jordan, showing audiences her more corrupt and backstabbing side — she’s everything Ashley will want in a Supe.
Andre is still on a mission to find the truth about Golden Boy, and on his adventures is helped by his best friend Cate. Both are almost captured and it ends with Cate falling to the floor, possibly dead. This cliffhanger of an ending is enticing, but we don’t know enough about this character yet to truly care if she lives or dies.
They’re getting closer to uncovering secrets, and hopefully, this happens sooner rather than being drawn out.
