Summary

The idea of The Bunny Man is brilliant, but the execution of the story was lackluster and underwhelming.

In Episode 4 of the Peacock original series John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams, we meet people from a neighborhood in Virginia who share stories of an axe-wielding man in a rabbit suit. The man in the rabbit suit has haunted the city for decades. The episode shares a retelling and reenactment of all that went down.

Our recap will fulfill a similar purpose but do be warned that it contains significant spoilers.

John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

We meet Eric, a Fairfax, VA, resident who talks about their upbringing and a little about the city. He spoke about the urban legend of “The Bunny Man” and how he thought it was people just trying to scare him. Cindy from the Burke Historical Society talked about how the urban legend of The Bunny Man scared people.

Cindy wrote a chapter about The Bunny Man in a book about Fairfax. She found one common theme about who everyone thought he was — a farmer who lived in the town over a hundred years ago. One night, a pastor walked up to his barn and noticed that he was chopping up a cow and drinking the blood.

The pastor called the cops on the farmer, and he was arrested. The farmer told the cops he stole the cow because a demon told him to. One night in a prisoner transfer, the farmer escaped, and they never caught him. They said he was running around the city keeping himself alive by eating rabbits. He would hang the carcasses all over town.

One night, the cops chased the farmer onto the train tracks, where he was hit by a train and killed. The following morning, the cops discovered that three kids were missing. The cops headed out to a bridge where they found the kids hung by their necks and gutted like rabbits.

What happens on the bridge during Halloween?

After the farmer had killed the three kids by the bridge, it is said that if you go to the bridge at midnight on Halloween, The Bunny Man’s ghost will murder you and victims will be found hanging off the bridge like the children were a hundred years ago.

As a result of the urban legend that The Bunny Man shows up during Halloween, kids from across the town show up at the bridge in an attempt to see him. We get a montage that shows kids partying at the bridge leading to an altercation with The Bunny Man, followed by some little kids trying to take pictures of the area of the woods he might live in, leading to a face-to-face with him.

Is The Bunny Man still alive?

We find out that a man’s body was found near the bridge in 2018, and Eric says that they hear stories of run-ins with The Bunny Man leading to everyone thinking that he is still alive.

John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams Episode 4 Ending Explained

Why was The Bunny Man terrorizing the city?

As the episode winds down, Eric and Cindy talk about their theory on why The Bunny Man was terrorizing the city. They believe it stemmed from The Bunny Man being unable to handle the rural area he was living in being shifted into a suburban town, and he lashed out because of it.
