Summary
“Cursed Neighborhood” is by far the weakest episode of Suburban Screams. A lackluster script mixed with failed attempts at “jump scares” results in an underwhelming experience.
In Episode 5 of the Peacock original series John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams we follow a mother and daughter who tell the horrific story of moving into their first house. “Cursed Neighborhood” recreates the duo attempting to fend off a vengeful spirit trying to purge them from the neighborhood.

John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams Season 1 Episode 5 Recap
The episode begins with some men in the woods startled by a noise. They had thought they had killed all the Indians already, but they came in and killed the men one by one.
We meet Carlette, who begins to tell the story of how she met Brian and how quickly after they met the two wed. They lived in Washington, DC, but didn’t feel safe, so they moved to Charles County. However, one night a loud gunshot went off, awakening Carlette and Brian. After going outside, we find out someone was shot and killed in the house next door.
What did Carly discover about her new neighborhood?
After the shooting, Carlette began looking online at past neighborhood events. In her research, she found that someone had gotten stabbed in the middle of the road, a man had hung himself, and in the house on the corner, a man had died and was dead for a couple of weeks before being found.
Things continue to get weirder and weirder for the family with Carlette’s mom and Brian starting to see crazy events transpire around the house. At dinner, Carlette’s mother said they needed to get out of the house before they killed them all. She decided that she wanted to move out of the house.
While trying to fix something on a ladder at the house, Brian heard a noise that made him fall off and break his ankle. As a result of the fall, his health started to deteriorate leading to him becoming very angry.
Why did Carly kick Brian out of the house?
Brian served one of his daughters raw meat at dinner, and he considered it ungrateful when she questioned him about it. He reached across the table and smacked her. At this point, Carlette had enough and kicked him out of the house.
After her eldest daughter left, Carlette’s youngest daughter, Angelique, noticed her mother’s decline because everyone had left her, and she decided to stay. Finally one night after seeing a ghost, Carlette woke Angelique up and left the house.

After leaving the house, Carlette had a welfare check done on Brian’s house. They informed her that he had passed away due to a heart disease. She believed that the deterioration caused by the neighborhood had taken him.
Carlette and Angelique started a new life in the United Kingdom. Carlette swore never to go back to that neighborhood ever again.
