For the first time in over thirteen years, horror legend John Carpenter is getting in the director’s chair for the Peacock original series, John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams. Carpenter has been drumming up scares for audiences for over fifty years and is the man behind the legend Michael Myers, but will he remain active enough to bring us Season 2?
John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams is a six-episode series that follows six different stories of slashers, ghosts, demons, and psychos that have terrorized neighborhoods for centuries. We hear first-hand accounts from the people who survived them as we watch reenactments unfold before our eyes.
Suburban Screams is far from perfect, but John Carpenter brings some much-needed scares for the holiday season. The episodes are set up to be six separate standalone stories, meaning you can dive head-first into each episode without worrying about cliffhangers. I loved that Carpenter did this because you could put yourself in these storytellers’ shoes to think about what you might’ve done.
I was a big fan of three of the episodes, which were “Kelly”, “House Next Door”, and “Phone Stalker”. Each one of these episodes is incredibly different in how they played out, but after I was done watching, I wanted more. If Carpenter truly wanted to, I could see a feature film made on any of those stories.
Will there be a Season 2 of John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams?
Renewed or Canceled Status: TBC
Currently, John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams has not been renewed for a second season.
For Suburban Screams to get a second season it will need a few things to go in its favor. First, audiences will have to give it a warm reception. Any positive reviews on any aggregate, including Rotten Tomatoes, will help get a second season renewal.
Second, the watch time. With the series being on Peacock, it’s often harder to figure out how many watch hours a series has or how it tracks on their streaming module. However, we know that NBC will see those numbers, and if they are to their liking, this is an easy renewal.
A possible third thing to be on the lookout for is the cost. When watching this series the budget doesn’t seem high. When you factor in that the writers were on strike for a long time, low-cost series will be at the top of the renewal list for studios like NBC. One other strong thing in the series’ favor? It’s John Carpenter, one of the most respected minds in the horror space. If he wants another season, how do you say no?
What would Season 2 of John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams look like? There are countless urban legends that Carpenter and his team could look at bringing to life. Truly, Peacock saying yes to the second season is the most challenging part because the possibilities are endless for another season.
Our official prediction is that John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams will be renewed for Season 2. We’ll keep this page up to date with the latest information as we get it.
