Summary

A slower but still entertaining episode that offers a lot of important information mixed with touching sentimental moments.

While The Rising of the Shield Hero surprised viewers last week with Nadia’s character reveal, Season 3 Episode 3 seems to promise even more insight into the Demi-humans of Lurolona Village with the reveal of two white tiger characters. For now, it’s unclear just how they fit into the puzzle, but there’s a chance they could have some past connections to the heroes we already know, like Raphtalia or even Sadeena. It’s impossible to tell where the season will take Naofumi and his party this early on, but knowing this Crunchyroll fantasy, it’s sure to be somewhat unexpected.

The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3 Episode 3 Recap

The episode opens with Fohl reentering a dungeon after a rigged match. He pays off the guard and then attends to his sister Atla, who is covered in bandages, and listens to the other slaves speak about one day being rescued by the Shield Hero.

The Slave Trader shows Naofumi the white tiger siblings, noting that Fohl is quite strong in combat for his age. Since white tigers are among the strongest races, with time, Fohl could even reach level 120. Naofumi agrees to heal Fohl’s sister in exchange for Fohl’s loyalty.

Naofumi’s party returns to the villages with even more slaves. He and Melty continue to maintain the area and raise the children but worry about defense and finances.

Why is Lurolona under attack?

When Naofumi leaves to visit another village, Lurolona is attacked by pillagers looking to steal the children. They claim demi-humans from Lurolona fetch a high price on the market and seek to destroy the village and sell them. It seems word of Naofumi’s involvement with the village and demi-humans has spread so far that demi-humans will even pretend to be from Lurolona to fetch a high price for their families.

Fohl releases a signal flare before he and Atla are also captured. Just as he is about to be made an example of, Naofumi and his party quickly return to defend Lurolona.

The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3 Episode 3 Ending Explained

Naofumi’s party quickly defeats the attackers, whom he plans to execute.

Eclair shows up to help, noticing the symbol on the attackers’ armor is one of a noble family. Since Naofumi cannot execute them for this reason, he decides to sell them as slaves instead.

Atla and Fohl tell Naofumi they want to learn to be stronger, so Naofumi takes Fohl with him when he resets Sadeena’s levels so they can take advantage of his hero buffs.

The queen tells Naofumi they’ve found the spear hero, Motoyasu.

While this episode wasn’t as intense and action-filled as the first two, it felt like a nice break before whatever is to come next.

There was a lot of heart and emotion this week with the taking in of Fohl and Atla. I liked how smoothly they managed to blend with Naofumi’s party and the other village members. However, it’s clear that both of them will have much more significant roles to play later. Their characters have a lot of potential that I hope is not wasted.

This episode definitely seemed like a bridge for the rest of the season. Several bits of new information were dropped about the state of the world, noble families, and various other heroes that I think will be important later. If there was ever a time to have a more relaxed feeling episode, the beginning of the season seems fitting.
