Summary

Although the episode starts out fine, it’s the second-half interactions between Moz and Gen that really sell it.

Nothing went as planned in Episode 13 of Dr. Stone Season 3, as the Kingdom of Science lost two more key members to the petrification beam. With Ginro and Kohaku out of commission in Episode 14, it’s up to Amaryllis to inform Senku of the Infiltration Team they’ve learned. That’s if she can get a message sent without being caught. There’s a chance the newly revived Perseus crew may be able to get their hands on the petrification device and save their friends.

The episode opens with Senku’s group reviving Yuzuriha and Chrome. While she is adept at reassembling their friend’s bodies, Chrome is the perfect person to help Kaseki work on drone building. They then revive Ukyo to help with sonar.

Amaryllis swims up to the cave and informs the group of Kohaku and Ginro’s petrification and Ginro’s theory about Soyuz and the petrified Master.

The Five Generals deduce that the Treasure Kingdom likely only has one petrification device and that most of them don’t know the Master has been petrified.

Moz appears in the cave, suddenly attacking Taiju. At first, they assume he is the enemy but quickly realize he actually may be Ibara’s enemy instead.

Gen attempts to convince Mox to join the Kingdom of Science using the drone and various manipulation tactics.

In exchange for his help, Senku’s group assumes that Moz wants control of the island and the harem after they defeat Ibara. However, Moz wants them to hand over the petrification device as well, which is what the Kingdom of Science expected to receive for their participation in the alliance.

Moz threatens to expose the Kingdom of Science if they don’t agree to give up the petrification device, but Gen reveals this is all part of his plan to get Moz to work with them.

Senku gives Moz Kohaku’s earring for communication and gifts him a new weapon. Moz then attacks the Treasure Kingdom, pretending to be a strong warrior from the Kingdom of Science to scare them into thinking their group is filled with warriors.

Going into this episode, I was not expecting to see Moz turncoat and align himself with the Kingdom of Science. However, it seemed like the perfect choice to keep things interesting and unexpected, and fans seem to have taken to the episode too.

It’s easy to forget, with all the jokes and science facts, that Dr. Stone also has a fair bit of action and danger. With Ginro’s attack in Episode 13 and now Moz’s menacing alliance, it feels like the series is building up to another Kingdom of Science versus Tsukasa Empire-level conflict, which has the potential to be especially compelling with the addition of the petrification device.

The fun of Dr. Stone is that at any time, a random episode can take the series in an unexpected but fresh direction, and the addition of Moz in the Kingdom of Science has just opened up all sorts of new possibilities for the rest of the season.
