Netflix has renewed its adult animated series Blue Eye Samurai for Season 2 after the first season’s success.
Ultra violent yet elegant, and taking its cues from the works of Akira Kurosawa, Kihachi Okamoto, and even Quentin Tarantino, the show has received some amazing reviews, blending genres and styles as disparate as John Wick and Italian Westerns. With those kinds of influences, it’s no surprise that Blue Eye Samurai has been as successful as it has.
Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 is confirmed
On December 12, 2023, Netflix officially renewed Blue Eye Samurai and offered the following statement:
“When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists, and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations,” creators, executive producers, and writers Amber Noizumi and Michael Green told Netflix.
“We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”
On IMDb, the show currently boasts an extremely impressive 9.0/10, while the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer boasts a 100% critics score with a 91% audience score. For once, the critics and the fans are on the same page, and this is about as universal as acclaim gets.
Social media is similarly awash with praise:

What can we expect from Blue Eye Samurai Season 2?
It would certainly seem that the story has not reached a definite conclusion, and the end of Season 1 has Mizu setting out in a boat heading towards London, furthering her quest for revenge.
Season 2 of the show would no doubt build on the events of the first and continue with the excellent production values, intriguing cast, challenging themes, and violent set-pieces that made Season 1 so captivating.
We would also expect the recurring cast to remain the same: Maya Erskine as Mizu, Masi Oka as Ringo, and George Takei as Seki would be imperative, and of course, that stunning, often experimental animation style, would be at the center of a second season.
How did Blue Eye Samurai Season 1 end?

In the final episode, we see Mizu and Ringo heading toward Edo Castle where she intends on killing Fowler and rescuing Akemi. Fowler seems to overpower Mizu and realizes that she is a woman, but sheer determination prevails and Mizu turns the tables.
Eventually, Fowler claims to have more information about Mizu’s past, revealing that Skeffington or Routely were responsible for selling off unwanted daughters. He also shockingly reveals that the person Mizu thought was her mother was just a maid, who had been paid to keep her hidden. Mizu spares his life knowing he may be the key to her finding closure, and imprisons him, setting sail for London and more answers.
