Summary

The Buccaneers has become a twisted addiction I can’t get enough of. Another incredibly indulgent episode that delivers the goods.

Newly engaged couple Theo and Nan arrive back in London in Episode 5 of the Apple TV+ series The BuccaneersWith Theo knowing Guy’s secret love for Nan, he begins to try to force a set up between him and a new suitor. As this happens, Conchita and Lord Richard make an unhappy decision about their future.

The period drama continues to be a surprisingly engaging — if a little indulgent — series, becoming increasingly gripping as it goes along. There’s drama all over the place in the latest outing, so let’s break it all down.

The Buccaneers Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Theo and Nan have returned to England, where they are getting a warm welcome from Guy. Theo knows what Guy sent to Nan and embraces him, but very awkwardly. Inside, Guy has been planning a bonfire that he does annually as his mom did once upon a time. Nan volunteers to help Guy chop wood, and he doesn’t say much while she tries to talk to him.

Who does Theo invite to the bonfire?

As everyone prepares for the bonfire, we meet Lady Hopeleigh, whom Theo has invited and made the guest of honor for the night’s festivities. Guy reacts oddly to the invite, and he and Theo have slight words about him inviting anyone to the bonfire.

Mabel and Honoria head off to a house where they begin to finish what they started Stateside by kissing one another. Although they begin to kiss, Mabel has this look of uncertainty on her face. Mabel later explains that they can’t expect this to work, breaking things off with her.

What happens between Conchita and Lord Richard?

Lord Richard sees Conchita and tells her he told everyone she was off doing other things because he didn’t want to tell them the truth yet. The truth is that Conchita is taking their daughter and moving out of the house.

As Guy attempts to escape from Lady Hopeleigh, he stumbles across Lizzy sitting in the kitchen, looking upset. She explains to him why she is upset (she mentions what happened with Lord Seadown) in a way that doesn’t reveal the details.

The group plays a game where whoever finds the torch gets to light the bonfire. It’s within a maze, and Guy announces that the ladies get to have a head start. As everyone hunts down the torch, Guy and Nan run into each other, leading to her saying she doesn’t think he should marry Jean. He asks her why she believes he will marry Jean after what he said to her in the telegram, and she replies, “What telegram?”

Nan ran away as Guy tried to come around to talk to her. She sits down to speak with Conchita about the telegram, wondering what it said. Conchita calls her out, saying she is in love with Guy, and she doesn’t deny it. Nan tells her that she needs to know what was on the telegram.

Nan confronts Guy to ask him about the telegram. He explains that he is desperately in love with her, and Nan kisses him but then pushes him away. After the kiss, she storms off to run away from Guy, and they run into Theo, who asks what they are up to. Guy says he is showing her the garden.

How does The Buccaneers Season 1 Episode 5 end?

The trio goes inside to play cards with plenty of money on the table. Theo has beaten Guy at cards for fifteen years, but this time, Guy has beaten Theo. This leads to Theo being upset and confronting Guy about his intentions. However, Nan interrupts them, saying, “I haven’t shown my hand,” and lays down her winning hand. But she also says, “I won, but feel like I have nothing at all.”

Later that night, Theo apologizes to Nan and they two share a passionate kiss as Guy looks on from a distance.
