Summary

An emotionally charged episode with an unexpected ending sure to leave fans devastated.

Mashiro proved just why he was a curse to reckon with in the last episode of Crunchyroll’s Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. After taking out fan-favorite Kento Nanami in Episode 18, Mahito took on Yuji while a separate, new Mahito cornered Nobara in an alley. Now dealing with twice the threat, the sorcerers will have their hands full in Episode 19 as they try to take down Mahito.

The latest episode delivers yet another surprising and significant death, and the unexpected ending is sure to leave fans devastated.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 19 Recap

The episode opens with Akari receiving medical attention as she attempts to convince Nobara not to leave and do something reckless. However, Nobara refuses, not wanting to be the only one out of her, Yuji and Megumi to back down.

Yuji continues to fight one of the two Mahitos, who use numerous humans against him, while Nobara fights the other Mahito outside. As she attempts to avoid making contact with the other Mahito, he manages to cut her.

Nobara uses her hairpin and resonance attacks to hit the other Mahito multiple times at once. This attack also happens to affect the original Mahito, which Yuji immediately recognizes as Nobara’s. The aftereffects of her blow buy him enough time to get several blows in on Mahito.

As Nobara prepares for another attack, the other Mahito attempts to run away. As he flees, the original Mahito runs away from Yuji as well. Just when he thinks they are going to re-merge, the two Mahitos run past each other, with the original laying a hand on Nobara as he passes.

In a flashback to Nobara’s childhood growing up in a small countryside town. She befriends a bullied girl named Fumi and then introduces her to an older girl named Saori. They visit Saori occasionally, but after Saori’s house is vandalized, she moves away, upsetting Nobara to the point of tears. Years later, when Nobara leaves for Tokyo, Fumi wonders if she’ll also cry for her. Nobara holds back tears as she promises all three of them will be together again.

How does Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 19 end? Does Nobara Kugisaki die?

At her job, Saori reminisces to a coworker about the time she spent with Nobara and Fumi growing up. She wonders what Nobara is up to now as Nobara stands, holding her face where Mahito touched her.

As she reflects on her life growing up, Nobara apologizes for being unable to keep her promise to Fumi. She then asks Yuji to give everyone her last words before the side of her face seems to explode. It is unknown whether or not these injuries are fatal, but she is presumed dead.

After last week’s Kento Nanami death, I would’ve never expected Jujutsu Kaisen to kill off another character, especially not Nobara. Despite how sad they were, both episodes did a beautiful job of illustrating the character’s final moments. While I do wish the series had leaned more into her relationship with Yuji and Megumi in the end, too, the flashback really elaborated on Nobara’s motivations and made her death hit even harder.

With Yuji losing two of his friends back to back like this, I am curious to see how he reacts in these next few episodes. Knowing how much he values everyone in his life, I imagine he will not be taking this easy.
