The Brothers Sun is a darkly comedic Netflix series created by Brad Falchuck and Byron Wu that follows Bruce and Charles Sun, two estranged Taiwanese brothers. One of them is a college student in Los Angeles, and the other a Triad gangster in Taipei. Fittingly, The Brothers Sun was filmed in both of these locations, weaving that feeling of distinct lives, locations, and cultures into the production itself. The hotly anticipated show looks set to be a winner for the streaming giant, and fans are already adding the show to their Netflix queue.

Where was Netflix’s The Brothers Sun filmed?

Los Angeles

With the two main locations of the show being LA and Taipei, it was certain that the showrunners would make sure that the locations used were authentic, so Los Angeles was used for most of the location work on the series.

During the show’s production, a casting call went out for extras and background actors, and of course, the location was listed as Los Angeles for the shoot. Shooting was scheduled for the extras on August 8th, 2022. Production List also has the shoot listed in LA, and eagle-eyed viewers will no doubt be able to pinpoint some of the more iconic locations used. If you know of any of the areas used for this show, let us know in the comments below.

Taipei, Taiwan

The other main location for the series is Taipei, and a lot of the background of the story and the characters takes place in this location. The series takes place in both Los Angeles and Taiwan and features a predominantly Asian writers’ room and an all-Asian cast, so it was important for the production to film in as many authentic locations in Taipei as possible.

The crew were on location there for three months.

Who created The Brothers Sun?

The action comedy television series was created by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu for Netflix. You might recall Brad from his work with co-creator Ryan Murphy on shows such as Scream Queens, Pose, Glee, and American Horror Story, as well as Dahmer, also for Netflix. He also worked extensively on Nip/Tuck as a writer and executive producer. He is married to Gwyneth Paltrow.

Byron Wu is also a producer and writer, but this is his first major project. Previously, Wu had a writing credit on a short-form film called The Getaway.

Who directed The Brothers Sun?

The pilot episode of The Brothers Sun is directed by Kevin Tancharoen, an American director, producer, screenwriter, dancer, and choreographer. Kevin would work with Madonna and Britney Spears as a choreographer but would make the jump to film in 2009, directing the remake of the classic 80’s musical Fame. To provide proof of concept for a project, he would go on to film the short Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.

This would lead to him directing and producing the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, which would see him named as the director for a new theatrically released movie of Mortal Kombat, however, he eventually removed himself from the project.
