Netflix are finding reasonable success with their exclusive deal to adapt some of the novels by incredibly prolific writer Harlan Coben. The next series based on one of his novels is titled Fool Me Once and is a chilling tale of murder, conspiracy, and revenge. It follows Maya, played by Michelle Keegan, whose husband is murdered in a random attack, leaving her and their young daughter alone. However, when Maya is encouraged to install a nanny cam in her home, she records a man in their house who looks frighteningly like her dead husband. This kickstarts a chain of events that unravels a terrible mystery threatening her life. Fool Me Once was filmed primarily in the U.K., so let’s take a look at some of the locations where the production team worked to bring the story to life.
Where was Fool Me Once on Netflix filmed?
Manchester, UK
The location of the production was changed from the novel. In the book, the action takes place in the U.S., with Joe’s murder happening in Central Park in New York, but with the production happening in the U.K., there were a lot of changes to be taken into consideration.
Fool Me Once was filmed primarily in and around the city of Manchester, located in the North West of England, which is also the home of the production company behind the series. Once a huge industrial city during the Industrial Revolution, the city was known for its cotton production in the Victorian Era, bringing about both great wealth and great poverty and terrible squalor to its residents.

Netflix revealed that filming would take place in the city as well as some surrounding areas in the North West of England. The Yorkshireman would report that Michelle Keegan, who plays Maya in the thriller, was spotted in Yorkshire for some scenes. Keegan was snapped in the town of Halifax, with locals reporting that film crews were sighted in Burdock Way, near the Orange Street roundabout.
Spain
It is reported that some further filming took place in Spain for the series but there is very little information about the overseas shoot available. We can speculate that the location may have been used for scenes of Maya’s past in the military, but that’s a guess.
When did production for Fool Me Once finish?
The production is reported to have wrapped by August 2023, allowing time for post-production, with the series dropping on January 1st, 2024.

Who produced Fool Me Once?
Production fell to Quay Street Productions, an independent production company based in Manchester where the series was filmed, and set up by award-winning producer Nicola Shindler in 2021 to make “contemporary, provocative, entertaining, and engaging drama for U.K. and global audiences.”
