Netflix’s animated, darkly comic drama Carol & The End of the World is a quirky off-beat story that sees Earth under the threat of extinction, as a planet seems to be heading our way on a terrifying collision course. As most of the world’s population starts to lose their mind and indulge themselves in doing whatever they feel, Carol remains stoic and controlled.  Ten episodes make up the first season of the show, but fans are already wondering where the show could go next. Is Season 2 on the cards? The streaming giant might not have renewed the show yet, but that doesn’t mean they won’t in the future.

Has Netflix Renewed Carol & The End of the World for Season 2?

Official Renewal Status: TBC

At the time of writing, there has been no official word about a second series of the show. It seems that the show itself has been conceived as a mini-series, and that could mean that the show-runners themselves may not have any more plans for another season.

However, if the show is a huge success, there will no doubt be a push to produce more episodes, so don’t lose hope right away.

How has Carol & The End of the World done with critics and audiences?

The initial reviews for the show have been positive so far. At the time of writing IMDb rates the show at a nice 6.9/10, with some users calling it a “masterpiece” and a “breath of fresh air”, however, one user does express their disappointment, calling it “extremely boring”.

Collider says the show is “joyous” and Den of Geek would go on to say that the show “strikes a chord with viewers who grapple with existential dread.” The AV Club also praises the series, as does The New York Times, which calls it “an affirming apocalypse”.

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, have also expressed their thoughts on the show:

Who created Carol & The End of the World?

Brazilian-born Dan Guterman is the creative mind behind Carol & The End of the World, and it was produced by Bardel Entertainment for Netflix. If you recognize Dan, it’s probably from Rick and Morty, but he also wrote for The Colbert Report and Community. His episode of Rick and Morty, “The Ricklantis Mix Up”, would win him an Annie Award, and he has also won two Emmys for his writing.

Guterman describes the show as:

“A love letter to routine. A show about the comforts of monotony. An animated and existential comedy about the daily rituals that make up the gaps that make up a life.”

Who voices Carol?

Carol is voiced by Martha Kelly, who has had a long, consistent career, recently appearing in shows such as Sitting in Bars With Cake and What We Do in the Shadows.

Martha also appeared in two episodes of American Gods, but most people will remember her from the huge blockbuster Spider-Man: Homecoming, from 2017, where she played the tour guide.
