Dr. Death is a funny old thing, highlighting the endless appeal of atrocities committed by medical professionals. With two seasons of the show, adapted from the Wondery podcast, under Peacock‘s medical gown, people are already speculating about Season 3. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the response for both seasons has been very positive, and if the show is renewed there is an ideal subject for it in the existing source material — Farid Fata.
Has Peacock renewed Dr. Death for Season 3?
Official Renewal Status: TBC
At the time of writing, there is no official confirmation about Dr. Death Season 3. However, regular readers will know that this is normal, as all the data for the second season will still be getting analyzed before a decision is made about renewal.
However, based on the current trajectory, a renewal seems likely. The Wondery podcast that the show is based on has another subject to adapt, and Peacock will relish the idea of a popular true-crime anthology being exclusive to its platform. Both seasons of Dr. Death were successful with both critics and audiences.
With all these things in mind, Dr. Death Season 3 is very much a possibility. We’ll update with the latest news on the subject as soon as we have it.
What could Dr. Death Season 3 be about?
The original idea for Dr. Death came from a Wondery podcast of the same name that currently has three subjects: Paolo Macchiarini, Christopher Duntsch, and another subject, Lebanese-born hematologist and oncologist Farid Fata. Logically, the series would adapt the story of Fata in the third season to preserve the format and the closeness to the source material.
Given staying true to the podcast has proven popular for both seasons thus far, there would be little reason — outside of potential legal issues — for the show to deviate from its established format if a third season were to be commissioned.
How did critics and audiences react to Dr. Death Season 2?
Variety says the show is “disturbing and well-acted,” but feel the pacing was off in early episodes. Collider seems to have enjoyed most of the show’s production, giving it an 8/10, and The Hollywood Reporter remarks that the show is a “half-effective tale of science and seduction”.
