Summary

The main subplots in For All Mankind start to build some momentum in “Brazil,” gearing up towards what is sure to be an exciting Season 4 finale.

The penultimate episode of For All Mankind Season 4, Episode 9, “Brazil,” focuses on the many unraveling subplots in this enticing Apple TV+ original series. Dev’s team continues their plans to sabotage the asteroid capture mission, and Danielle’s very own team starts to investigate this possible betrayal, whilst back on Earth, Margo and Sergei prepare to run away together to escape the wrath of the KGB and their imminent deaths.

The penultimate episode pulls on our heartstrings as Danielle and Ed’s storylines teeter between the heartening and the heartbreaking, whilst Margo’s storyline ends in tragedy.

We begin with Dev’s narrative. The billionaire and his team are unable to connect with Ranger still. They worry that Sam has failed her mission, she hasn’t swapped the discriminator boxes yet, even though she’s had a month to do so. Dev realizes that they only have 48 hours to take over the Ranger, but the success of their mission is completely out of their hands now. Everything rests on Sam’s shoulders.

In the last episode, Sam quickly discovered just how tricky her task was and has been unable to swap the boxes ever since. With time fast running out, she decides to destroy the Ranger’s current box instead. Sam pours liquid into the discriminator box, which instantly shuts down. The team is forced to replace the box and Sam volunteers to be the one to switch the boxes. Finally, her plan has come into action.

The first stage of Dev’s plans to steal the asteroid have finally fallen into place, but he is none the wiser for the time being. He analyzes data with Kelly, who may have discovered life on Mars after all. Kelly probes Dev about his new friendship with Ed, as she is highly suspicious of them both. Dev manages to avoid answering the question though, flipping the discussion to focus on Kelly and Ed’s own failing relationship instead.

What does Dev need from the Koreans?

Meanwhile, Miles and Ed meet with Lee. They need the North Koreans’ help. Lee gives them full access to the Koreans’ cameras. It appears the Koreans have been spying on Happy Valley since the very start. Dev’s team now has access to all of these cameras too. They soon discover that Sam’s mission has succeeded. They now have control of the Ranger.

Dev’s luck might be about to turn once again though. Lee’s assistant, Commander Cho, finds a hidden device connected to his computers. He takes this device straight to Danielle, demanding the terrorists be arrested. He blames Miles right away. Danielle is surprised to hear that the Koreans have been spying on them, but still wants to investigate the mysterious device nonetheless.

She tells Eli about the device and the stolen items from Phoenix. Eli speaks with Irina and agrees to activate the undercover assets at Happy Valley, things are getting out of hand. Danielle is then introduced to the sleeper spies Timur and Mike, who work for the KGB and the CIA. These spies agree to start investigating the potential sabotage mission.

Back on Earth, Aleida updates NASA on the mining schedule. Eli is disappointed with the two-year time delay. He needs the process accelerated somewhat, although that would cost far too much money. Aleida and Margo are tasked with brainstorming further ideas. Margo passes Aleida a note for Sergei. Aleida is tired of being the middle man though. She suggests that they meet in person, at her home, instead.

How does Sergei plan to escape with Margo?

Later, Margo and Sergei discuss the mission at Aleida’s house. Sergei suggests running away with Margo. He thinks they will be able to move to Brazil and work on the Brazilian’s space program. Margo tries to hide her excitement, stating that she wants to see the asteroid capture mission through first. The couple then hold hands.

Back on Mars, Kelly confronts Ed about her suspicions. Ed gives a heartfelt response, detailing his desire to leave behind a legacy on Mars. He wants to build Happy Valley into a thriving community. The father and daughter hug one another. Kelly is glad her father has opened up to her. Ed then apologizes for not being there for Kelly and her family.

How does For All Mankind Season 4 Episode 9 end?

Commander Cho decides to do his own investigating, unhappy with Danielle’s response. He checks through the Koreans’ old CCTV footage, following Miles’ every move. This leads him to the restricted lower levels of Happy Valley. Cho finds the secret access to these restricted lower levels and stumbles across Dev’s entire operation in the process.

Lee attacks Cho, who has already found out way too much about their secret operation. He strangles Cho until he passes out. At the same time, Miles is interrogated by the spies Timur and Mike. When he refuses to give them any information, the spies begin to beat Miles instead.

Who dies in “Brazil?”

“Brazil” concludes back on Earth with the death of Sergei, who is shot dead by an unknown assassin. The assassin then makes it look like suicide. At the same time, Margo researches the Brazilian space program in her own hotel suite. Heartbreakingly, her dreams of escaping with Sergei have now been destroyed forever.
