Summary
A solid second episode that gives viewers a better idea of what to expect from this fun adventure series.
After a solid premiere, Netflix’s Delicious in Dungeon Season 1 returns for Episode 2 to eager new fans curious to see where it’s going. Episode 1 introduced Laios, who, with his party, wants to rescue his sister from the belly of a dragon. With no money to their name for food and new supplies, it began to feel like an impossible task. However, with the help of their new companion, Senshi, they may at least learn to fend for themselves by cooking monsters.
The episode opens in Marcille’s nightmare, where she dreams of being served dungeon monsters for her birthday. She awakens with a start, only to smell the adventurers nearby cooking things like cured meats. Senshi deduces that she is craving fat and makes it their goal to find and eat monsters rich in fat next.
Laios suggests finding a Basilisk since they are part chicken, meaning they can harvest eggs from it. The party finds a nest and is immediately attacked upon trying to retrieve its eggs. Although Senshi and Laios manage to behead both ends of the monster, a member from another party is poisoned in the process.
Senshi begins cooking the Basilisk so that he can give the poisoned adventurer Basilisk an antidote. Grateful, he and his partner immediately start asking for advice on preparing and eating dungeon monsters.
Before continuing, the party decides to harvest mandrakes for vegetables. They struggle with choosing a method that will avoid being affected by the Madrake’s cry. While Senshi just cuts their heads off before they scream, Marcille is determined to do things the way she was taught using her magic guide.
Despite her efforts to avoid the Mandrake’s cry by using a Big Bat to harvest them, Marcille becomes disoriented after hearing the cry anyway. After admitting to just wanting to be helpful, her method proves to be better, and her Mandrake ends up tasting more delicious thanks to retaining its head.
What kind of expert is Chilchuk?
Chilchuck is an expert at disarming traps and picking locks. As Laios’ party begins its descent toward the third floor, Chilchuck uses his skills to find them a secret path. The path is filled with traps, so he warns them not to make any moves without him, but Senshi still ends up triggering several anyway.
Per Senshi’s request, Chilchuck leads him to find the source of one of the fire-related traps, leading them to discover a treasure room in the process, where they harvest olive oil from the trap.
How does Delicious in Dungeon Season 1 Episode 2 end?
Since he knows the trap layout best, Senshi sends Chilchuck to fry their food while he prepares the ingredients.
As he struggles to fry the Mandrake and Big Bat cakes deep, Chilchuck realizes just how hard cooking is. Meanwhile, Senshi also learns to appreciate how skilled Chilchuck is at dealing with traps. Chilchuck offers to teach him the basics of traps in the future.
Much like Episode 1, Episode 2 was a solid mix of humor, cooking, and action. So far, Delicious in Dungeon feels relatively lighthearted, but today’s minor conflicts surrounding Marcille’s insecurities, along with Chilchuck and Senshi’s misunderstanding, really add some depth to the story. As time goes on, I expect it may prove to be more than just a sweet adventure series about cooking.
The animation and voice acting help elevate this series and make it fun to watch. Overall, I’m enjoying myself thus far, and I’m curious to see where the series goes as it introduces more conflict and even more monsters.
