The Trust: A Game of Greed is another in a series of game shows that gathers a group of people together, offers them some interesting financial proposals, and then leaves them to devolve into their worst possible selves. This particular game show has eleven hopefuls who are sent to reside in a luxury beachside villa in the Dominican Republic, which is where the Netflix series is filmed. You might even recognize the location from previous reality TV projects.
Where was The Trust: A Game of Greed filmed?
The Dominican Republic
In contrast to the dark hearts of the players wrapped up in the game, the location of the villa is in the beautiful and bright Dominican Republic, which is found on the island of Hispaniola and is an incredibly popular holiday destination for people from all over the world. The show’s producers wanted to film in an area that could also offer some lovely scenery, and give them access to areas that could be utilized in the challenges that have been arranged for the players.
The challenges, including jumping into the water from great heights, help not only the other players but the audience at home, to assess the way they behave and find out more about their personalities. Of course, there are other incentives for filming in the Dominican Republic. In 2018, the government made a massive cut in withholding tax, reducing it from 27% to 1.5%. It also has a transferable tax credit of 25% on expenditure that is qualified for international productions that film there, which makes it very attractive for production companies to make their shows in this location.
The Villa
The actual villa used in the filming of the show may be familiar to some viewers, as various reports indicate that this is not the first time you will have seen it on film. The same villa was used in other TV shows such as You Are the One and The Bachelorette but the secrecy behind the project was very important, and even the players were not told where they were going until they got there.
How long do they film The Trust: A Game of Greed?
Filming for the show lasted for two and a half weeks, and many of the contestants had to give up their jobs for the duration of the shoot. Contestants stated that they were not even allowed to discuss their traveling plans when signing on to appear in the series. One player, Julie Theis, uploaded an interesting video to her Instagram page where she spoke of the level of secrecy around the show, to the point where she did not even know what the series would be about, or what it would entail.
The post also explains that all the contestants were in the same boat.
