Summary
“The Man Goes Through” should’ve been titled “The Calm Before the Storm.” The episode is solid, but it felt more like a setup for everything that will finally come to a head in the finale.
With Detective Russo dying, Jack Reacher and his team ramp up their hunt to find Langston before he closes the deal. In the penultimate episode of Reacher Season 2, Langston finally gets the upper hand on Reacher, leading to him having to pull out all the stops to help save his friends. Episode 7 feels like the calm before the inevitable storm of the finale but remains a solid outing in its own right.
Who dies in “The Man Goes Through?”
Reacher walks into Marsh’s house to find out why he ratted out Detective Russo. Marsh is trying to pack his bags. Reacher pressures him for answers. Although he gives him what he needs, Marsh attempts to go for his gun, and Reacher pulls the trigger and kills him.
The lone piece of information that Marsh provided Reacher was that Grant was the only guy who could provide more information to Reacher. However, Reacher says that he was killed when they ran him over, but Marsh tells him he is still alive in intensive care. Reacher and Frances head to the hospital to visit him.
At first, Grant doesn’t provide any information to Reacher, but after he and Frances put pressure on him, Grant tells them that Langston is meeting with Azhari Mahmoud at five am. Although he gave them what he wanted, Reacher injects his IV with something as a special gift from Detective Russo, killing him. On their way out, they see a suspicious man in scrubs who came to clean up the loose end that was Grant. Frances and Reacher end up killing him.
What deal does Langston offer Reacher in Episode 7?
Reacher takes the man’s phone and calls Langston, who informs him that he got fed up with him taking out his man, so he put in a contingency plan. He knew some people in the Police Department, so they bugged Russo’s car and tracked down the motel where O’Donnell and Dixon were located. He says the deal is that he and Frances turn themselves into his henchmen and stay under their eye until the deal is done, and he will let them all go.
Reacher questions the deal, but Langston said they will be 65 million dollars richer after the deal is done and don’t need any more loose ends. Although he doesn’t like the deal, Reacher lies to Langston, saying that his man had killed Frances so he would be the only person he turned in.
Who does Reacher call for help?
Reacher knows he won’t be able to pull off his next mission without some backup, so he calls in favor of Senator Lavoy, who wants Reacher and his team to succeed to ensure the backlash doesn’t land on his lap. Lavoy agrees to give Reacher what he needs to take on Langston.
How does Reacher Season 2 Episode 7 end?
After some back and forth, Reacher decides that the only way he is going to be able to take down Langston is from the inside. So he tells Frances that he will turn himself into Langston and attempt to hold off until Lavoy’s team comes to his aid. The episode ends with Reacher turning himself over to Langston and his team while O’Donnell and Dixon are both attached to gurnies.
