The Bequeathed is the rare Netflix series that doesn’t angle for a second season by leaving the plot totally unresolved. Nonetheless, the six-part horror-thriller from Train to Busan creator Yeon Sang-ho was highly anticipated and met with plenty of positive attention from fans and critics, so Season 2 isn’t entirely out of the question. However, nothing is confirmed right now, and given the first season’s satisfying conclusion, it’s unlikely that this will change.

Has Netflix renewed The Bequeathed for Season 2?

Official Renewal Status: TBC

At the time of writing, there has been no official confirmation of a second season of The Bequeathed. This is quite normal for K-drama, where stories with a conclusive ending are a common, which is unlike most Western shows which normally aim for further seasons or spin-offs.

The Bequeathed was considered a limited series by Netflix, another indication that the show may be one and done. However, it is worth noting that as far as original material goes, the webtoon that the series is based on continues to release new material, so there is still a possibility that another season could be greenlit if the first one does well.

What could The Bequeathed Season 2 be about?

There is some wiggle room within the world created by the showrunners that could allow for further stories within it. There there is always a chance that there may be more secrets buried in Seo-ha’s family past, and there is also an opportunity to learn more about Detective Choi, his relationship with his son, and his future after retirement from the police force.

So there are avenues that could be explored if a decision to continue the series is made, however, the core storyline was wrapped up pretty neatly in the first season finale.

How did The Bequeathed Season 1 end?

Episode 6 of the limited series does its best to wrap up the story arcs for the characters involved after the antagonist was revealed in the penultimate episode.

Seo-ha and Myung-hee are able to save Young-ho from Tae-seong, though Myung-hee commits suicide rather than face punishment for her crimes. This leaves Seo-ha to inherit the burial ground, where she Myung-hee’s remains interred alongside her parents. Despite Young-ho claiming he wasn’t kidnapped to ensure that Seo-ha wasn’t legally implicated, the two of them aren’t in contact.

Detective Choi leaves the police force and attempts to reconnect with his son after Park was shot. The rift between the two of them seems mostly healed, and Choi can begin making progress towards repairing his relationship with his son.

5 Similar K-Drama to The Bequeathed

Hellbound

This supernatural series has a similar deathly vibe to The Bequeathed and the spooky premise explores what happens when people gain some inner knowledge about the details of their own death and the angel of death that arrives to claim them when the time comes. Hellbound was also, like this show, created by Yeon Sang-ho.

Sweet Home

More horror fantasy here in Sweet Home, with a young and isolated student struggling with the death of his family and forced into combatting the legions of the damned to save humanity itself.

Stranger

Stranger is another murder mystery that still has a grisly vibe but is a little more grounded, just like The Bequeathed. A prosecutor with a strange medical condition needs the help of a police lieutenant in a murder case, but it soon becomes clear that more is going on than they first think.

Death’s Game

Another K-drama here with death at its center finds Yee-jae ready to go straight to hell, and forced to cycle through twelve separate lives and twelve separate deaths in this drama that explores reincarnation.

Behind Your Touch

Another quirky K-drama with a supernatural vibe finds a psychic vet, yes you read that right, and a detective that team up to solve crimes in small-town cases. However, the stakes are increased when they are faced with a horrific serial killer.
