Filmed in Georgia and California, The Underdoggs is a Prime Video sports comedy film starring the much-loved rapper Snoop Dogg and is intended to draw more attention to his charitable efforts in getting kids from underprivileged backgrounds into professional sports. The filming locations reflect this intent in some ways, being set in authentic American neighborhoods and involving kids whose race and socioeconomic backgrounds have defined their lives and opportunities.
Where was The Underdoggs filmed?
Atlanta, Georgia
There were not too many areas used in the filming of The Underdoggs, and much of the production was recorded across regions of Dunwoody, Georgia. Dunwoody is a northern suburb of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Eagle-eyed viewers will also recognize the mansion house that is used in the film.
The mansion that Snoop’s character lives in is located at 720 Heards Ferry Rd NW Atlanta and has been used in many other productions, including music videos and celebrity parties. The Mediterranean Mansion has been used in the shows Greenleaf and MacGuyver and Mel Gibson had a Fourth of July party there too.
Long Beach, California
Lots of establishing shots were filmed on location in Long Beach, California, and the area is easy to spot in the film. You can see the Long Beach letters clearly in some shots of Snoop driving to the football field, and another well-known venue is also used in the shooting of the feature.
The Long Beach Polytechnic High School is prominent in the location work, and an article on Clutch Points reveals that Snoop Dogg attended that facility, as did many of his family. During a press conference for the film, he would state:
“Poly high school…This is the most prolific high school in Southern California, as far as I’m concerned. When you think about the greats that came through that campus.”
Some of the greats that did attend the polytechnic include Cameron Diaz, Carl Weathers, John Wayne, and Billie Jean King. It is located at 1600 Atlantic Avenue.
Who is directing and producing The Underdoggs?
The Underdoggs was directed by Charles Stone III and you will know him from films like Drumline, Mr 3000, and Paid in Full. The named producers on the project were Kenya Barris, Constance Schwarz-Morini, Mychelle Deschamps, Jonathon Glickman, and Snoop himself.
