Summary

With a solid balance of action, humor, and character development, this episode introduces new character dynamics while remaining incredibly entertaining to watch.

Things seemed bleak on Delicious in Dungeon Season 1 after a run-in with Orcs almost led to the end of Laios’s party. Luckily, dungeon food can be used for more than nourishment, bringing together feuding species and getting them to see eye to eye for once. We’ll see if that same level of understanding and camaraderie applies in Episode 5 as the party encounters even more new characters on their way to the third floor.

Delicious in Dungeon Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

The episode opens with a new party enjoying dinner in an Inn. Another patron comes along, praising the party for staying together when so many others fall apart. He wonders if they will be the ones to kill the Mad Mage, but their leader is unsure.

The new party prepares for a trip to the Dungeon, purchasing a week’s worth of food. On their first kill, they find a chest of gold and jewels and decide to return to town. However, they don’t seem to make it, as Laios’ party finds them dead in the middle of a hallway.

As Chilchuck attempts to pile up the loose treasure, Laios’s sword twitches randomly. He’s confused as the mollusk inside wraps around his wrist but soon realizes it is warning him of nearby danger. Suddenly, Treasure Insects emerge from all the gold and jewels, ready to attack until Marcille stuns them with a spell.

With the bugs subdued, Senshi gathers up the edible ones. He then cooks them in various ways, and they turn out surprisingly delicious.

Laios’ party decides to leave the area when a group of ghosts begin gathering. However, Laios is caught by a ghost when he goes back for the bun he dropped.

How does Senshi stop the ghosts?

When Marcille’s spells cause too much commotion, Senshi attempts to stop the ghosts using sacred methods like creating holy water and lighting candles. He quickly gathers all of his supplies and combines them for the best results, only to reveal he is making this up as he goes along.

How does Delicious in Dungeon Season 1 Episode 5 end?

The ghosts manage to reach them again, but Senshi begins attacking them with his jar of newly made holy water. The party is shocked to see how well it actually works as the ghosts are slowly driven away.

As it passes through the ghosts, the contents of the jar freeze, and Senshi soon realizes their makeshift holy water has turned into sorbet.

So far, each episode of Delicious in Dungeon has been a delight to watch, and Episode 5 is no exception.

The storytelling has felt smooth and cohesive as we move through the Dungeon, especially with so many characters and monsters to keep track of. It managed to introduce an entire party of new characters without them feeling out of place and still taught viewers a lot about Laois’ sister Falin despite her absence thus far.

The mix of fantasy tropes, adventure elements, and comedy helps this series to stand out and gives it the fun, immersive feel of other fantasy series like Fairy Tail or Black Clover while remaining incredibly unique with its culinary-related elements.
