Badland Hunters is a gripping action-adventure set in a nightmarish future world. We follow a desperate rescue attempt after a devastating earthquake leaves Seoul in ruins, and a mad scientist has kidnapped a teenage girl. The spiritual sequel to Concrete Utopia has fans eager for more, so here are some of our favorite dystopian movies with plenty of action like Badland Hunters to keep you entertained while you wait.

Logan (2017)

Possibly the greatest X-Men film ever, musical Patrick Stewart idolizer Hugh Jackman portrays a wounded and exhausted Wolverine in a violent future, protecting young Laura, a reflection of his own younger self, from the factions that are hunting her.

Stellar, understated performances make Logan unmissable, poignant, and a heart-breaking final act for the X-Men.

World War Z (2013)

Chiselled Fight Club founder Brad Pitt is on hand here to try to find a cure for a virus that has turned the world into a hellscape, complete with zombie-like aggressors around every corner, making the survival of the species impossible.

Daybreakers (2010)

Before leaving the world behind, Ethan Hawke would star in this dystopian movie set in a world where most humans have been transformed into vampires in the aftermath of a terrifying plague. The humans that survived are hunted to be used for research.

Dredd (2012)

It doesn’t get more dystopian than this adaptation of the famous lawman from the pages of the UK comic book anthology 2000AD. Shaking off the disastrous Stallone version, this is a masterclass in thrills and we long for a sequel — or at least a director’s cut.

Mad Max (1979)

Setting a new standard for post-apocalyptic films, ex-A-lister Mel Gibson stars as Max, a reluctant hero and ex-lawman at war with gangs of vicious thugs in a barren wasteland where fuel is currency. Violent, iconic, and still relevant today.

Escape From New York (1981)

John Carpenter would turn his back on horror to present this cult classic, featuring Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a charismatic convict and ex-military man, given 24 hours to rescue the President of the United States (Donald Pleasence) who has crash-landed in the waste ground that used to be New York.

Suspenseful and thrilling, this is another rescue attempt that will have you on the edge of your dystopian seat.

V for Vendetta (2006)

Based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, this dystopian future almost resembles the world we live in today, with a Big Brother-style government watching our every move, keeping the population submissive and ruling with an iron fist. Political corruption and decadence meet their match as V recruits Evey to help him overthrow the powers that be and free the population from tyranny.

I Am Legend (2007)

Perpetrator of the world’s most famous slap, Will Smith stars in this survival thriller based on the novel by legendary writer Richard Matheson. Robert Neville is the lone survivor in a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by a man-made virus and populated by strange vampiric creatures. Neville’s immunity makes him prey for the mutants and he must navigate the streets of a devasted New York City, his only companions being his loyal dog, Sam.

What Happened to Monday? (2017)

Here’s one you might have missed. This particular future reveals a world where families are only allowed one child due to the rise in global population and food shortages. A corrupt government wants to execute a group of septuplets that are on the run and looking for one of their sisters who has gone missing. Glenn Close is terrifying in her role in What Happened to Monday? and must be seen.

Cargo (2017)

Another pandemic, and another dystopian future — what did filmmakers know that we didn’t? In Cargo we are in rural Australia and we follow the struggles of an infected father who is desperately searching for a new home for his infant child and a means to protect her from his condition, and the violent world around them.
