Jake and Hiroto start unpacking who was involved the night of Polina’s disappearance in the Season 2 debut of the Max original series, Tokyo ViceAs Jake and Hiroto peel back the layers of what happened, things unravel around them, making them worry about their and their families’ safety. Episode 1 sets the stage perfectly for the events that will follow.

Who assaulted Polina?

We begin with Jake and Hiroto watching the video of the Japanese men sexually assaulting Polina. Hiroto recognizes one of the men, Jotaro Shigematsu, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Hiroto informs Jake that Jotaro is a very powerful man known for making people disappear. He tells Jake to turn the tape over to the news while he collects more evidence on who sent Jake the tape to begin with. After showing the tape to his bosses, they agree to run the story, but only after they get a comment from the minister himself.

Who was the boat registered to?

Hiroto looked into who the boat that the Vice Minister and his crew assaulted Polina on was registered to, and it was Misaki. She is Tozawa’s number one girl. When Jake confronts her, she says she knows nothing about the boat.

Jake and Eimi meet with the Vice Minister, who sees the photos and says it wasn’t him. His response to the forthcoming article is “no comment.” Because of his lack of response, Jake tries to push Jotaro into giving them someone else because it seems they are attempting to blackmail him. However, Jotaro gets pissed off, snapping at Eimi for Jake’s lack of ethics.

Who dies in “Don’t Ever F**king Miss”?

Detective Miyamoto was found dead in a hotel room with a picture of him meeting with another detective. Hiroto’s boss believes that because he and Jake are inching closer to Tozawa, he is attempting to cover his tracks. His boss also informs him that they will announce that Miyamoto passed away via heart attack instead of being murdered because the press would shred them for a detective working with the Tozawa gang.

Sato’s brother, Kaito, gets a call from the hospital that his brother is left for dead. After arriving, Sato’s fellow gang members arrive to break him out. After getting him to where they needed to be, it was announced that he would make a full recovery and that they would be looking into who attacked him.

What happened to the videotape?

Jake received a phone call from Eimi about a fire at their job. The entire room where the videotapes of Polina were stored has been destroyed, along with all the copies that were being made. They can’t run the article against the Vice Minister because the footage is gone.

Hiroto informs Jake that his boss told him the investigation is DOA currently, and with him and his family in jeopardy, they must back off and bide their time. Before he goes, Hiroto promises Jake that Polina and Miyamoto will get their justice one day.

Hiroto visits the Vice Minister to ask him what Tozawa wants from him. He says Tozawa can’t get into the United States anymore and asks for help. So he blackmails him with the tape to get him to help him get back in the States.
