Love Sonia (2018)
Love Sonia is from director Tabrez Noorani and just like Bhakshak follows a terrible narrative as we find Sonia, a young girl from India, who is sold by her father and finds herself in a nightmarish world of sex trafficking. Sonia is determined to find her similarly sold sister and must make her way through a terrifying underworld to save herself and her sibling.
Honorable Mention: Nightcrawler (2014)
Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Louis Bloom in Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler, in a film that explores what can happen when the news is made rather than reported. Bloom realizes that he can sell his photographs to news outlets and gets the goods by listening to a scanner and getting to the action before the emergency services can. However, Bloom’s desire for better material leads him to manipulate some scenes into more sellable content, and a spiral begins, showing that sometimes what we see presented as news may not necessarily be the absolute truth.
