AlRawabi School for Girls is a Jordanian Netflix teen drama, created by Tima Shomali, that takes a look at the complex intricacies of the social interactions in an all-girls school. After a successful second season, but without any confirmation of Season 3, now’s the time to check out some similar shows to fill the gap. So, here are 10 teen dramas like AlRawabi School for Girls that you should check out.

Derry Girls  (2018)

Set in Ireland during the 1990s, Derry Girls is a popular and often hilarious comedy-drama following the struggles of a 16-year-old girl and her family and friends in Northern Ireland. The show became so popular that in January 2019, a large public mural featuring all five main characters was painted on the wall of the Badgers Bar and Restaurant in Derry itself.

Elite (2018)

From Ireland to Spain for our next entry, another ensemble cast, this time at an exclusive private school that sees three more working-class students thrust into the world of the elites at this particular institute for learning. However, things get out of hand quickly, with deadly results. Elite is one of Netflix’s most popular international original series.

Sex Education (2019)

Meanwhile, back in the UK, Gillian Anderson would surprisingly star in Sex Education, a raunchy sitcom-style show that follows a teenage boy with a sex therapist for a mother who collaborates with a school classmate to establish an underground sex therapy clinic at the school they attend. Future Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa also appears in this quirky comedy.

The Society (2019)

Over in the US, this series has a more sinister and suspenseful vibe, as we find the teen residents of West Ham must fight to survive after they find that everyone else that resides in their well-to-do township has just vanished. With vibes of Lost and an interesting premise, the show couldn’t sustain its pace, and sadly another season never arrived.

Control Z (2020)

Control Z is another show focusing on the horror of high school. This Mexican series had a mystery at its core, as we see an enigmatic hacker causing chaos as they reveal the darkest secrets of the students to anyone who cares to look. As events escalate out of control, only Sofia seems to want to stop the madness before the situation becomes deadly.

Skam (2015)

It seems that no matter where you go in the world, there will be a high school drama that is filled to the brim with teenage angst. Over in Oslo, Skam tells the story of a group of pupils at Hartvig Nissens Upper Secondary School, and their struggle to cope with the horror of everyday life. The hook here though is that each season was told from the perspective of a different character, making it a fresh experience each time.

The Five Juanas (2021)

Another Mexican show here, and we have moved the focus away from school, but back onto revenge, as five different women, all with the same birthmark, get together to try and expose the tangled exploits of an untouchable politician. With adult themes and plenty of twists, this is a tale of revenge that you should enjoy if you liked our featured series.

Riverdale (2017)

This popular show was based on the more whimsical comic books in the Archie series, using the characters and places, but in a darker way. We follow Archie and company as they traverse the ups and downs of teenage life, love, school, and relationships, but underneath it all are some hidden secrets that are slowly revealed. Sadly the show lost its momentum and focus as further seasons were released leaving fans upset at the declining standard.

On My Block (2018)

Four street-wise friends in South Central Los Angeles are desperately trying to find a way to extricate a friend from a local gang. This coming-of-age story manages to mix comedy and drama and explores friendship and relationships in a gritty, often violent world.

Grange Hill (1978)

This UK school-based show was hugely influential when first released in the UK on BBC TV. The show followed the large cast of pupils and teachers at Grange Hill Comprehensive School, and ran for an incredible thirty years, launching the careers of many UK celebrities, and covering some content that probably wouldn’t be allowed by today’s standards. Ground-breaking and beloved by those of a certain age.
