Code 8 climbed on the crest of the superhero wave and presented us with a grounded look at a world where four percent of the population has superpowers, but Code 8: Part II arrived in a climate much less amenable to the genre. Nevertheless, though, the Amell cousins, Robbie and Stephen, already have plans for Part 3, assuming that the sequel performs as well as the original did.

Will there be a Code 8: Part 3?

An article on CBR suggests a third part of the story is planned. Orlando hosted MegaCon, and leading men Robbie and Stephen Amell were on hand to field some questions. When asked about a third entry they hinted that there was definitely more to come from the Code 8 world and said the second film “only scratched the surface”, indicating that more world-building has been considered for the franchise.

CBR posted live quotes to the panel on their X account:

It is worth noting that as well as starring in the films, the cousins are also producers on the project. Subsequent posts in the X thread addressed this too:

What is Part 2 about?

Following on from the events of the first film, Code 8: Part II sees the return of Robbie and Stephen, reprising their roles from the first film, and this time they are both up against a vicious and corrupt gang of law enforcement officers who will do anything to stop their plans being revealed. A teenage girl with special abilities, looking for answers after her brother is murdered, enlists the aid of ex-con Conner to expose the evil.

The official synopsis on IMDb is as follows:

Follows a girl fighting to get justice for her slain brother by corrupt police officers. She enlists the help of an ex-con and his former partner, they face a highly regarded and well protected police sergeant who doesn’t want to be.

Who directed Part 2?

Code 8: Part II is directed by Jeff Chan, who also produced the first film in the series. Chan had also previously worked on the teen romance Float which also starred Robbie Amell back in 2016.

How likely is it that Part 3 will be made?

A potential sequel will depend on how well Part II performs on Netflix.

In an article on Collider, there is more information from Stephen Amell. When attending the MegaCon he explained that,

“I want to know more. I want to know more about Lincoln City. I want to know more about the powers that we have in the city. We are still very much at the street level of Lincoln City and obviously there has to be a hierarchy up there. So, I think that we tell a compelling story. You do learn more about Robbie’s character and my character and the power population, but it just still very much feels like it’s scratching the surface.”

Given the other information gleaned from MegaCon above, it is obvious that the creative team behind Code 8 are keen to tell more stories in the universe. This means that the likelihood of a sequel is almost entirely dependent on performance. The first film ended up becoming a major cult hit, but as mentioned, it debuted when superhero movies were at their all-time popularity peak. In 2024, a certain amount of genre fatigue has set in, and there’s a chance that this will hamper the performance of Code 8: Part II.

However, the fact that Code 8 delivers a superhero story that is grounded in a very recognizable world and has a blue-collar perspective is a strong point in its favor, and hopefully, that unique angle will help the sequel to resonate just as much as the original did. If that’s the case, Code 8: Part 3 is all but guaranteed.
