Summary

Constellation continues to be a convoluted mess that doesn’t deliver anything of value. With only four episodes left, I hope things pick up from here.

As we continue to weave in and out of the past and present, Jo struggles to figure out who or what she was before she left for space in Episode 4 of ConstellationMagnus explains that their marriage was on the rocks, and Jo realizes parts of her life are missing. On the ship, Henry attempts to keep the FBI off his tracks after murdering Ian Rogers. Season 1 continues to be needlessly convoluted.

Alice and Magnus wander through the snowy woods, arriving at their cabin, and we see Alice and Jo together. Alice says this is the last time she was at this cabin. She was with her mother, and her father said your mother won’t be here, don’t worry.

Magnus and Alice throw a late Christmas and late birthday for Jo. After the dinner, Magnus tells Jo that they didn’t leave things in a great way before she left. Jo challenges, saying she didn’t remember it that way, even saying sorry. He asks if she loved him, and she says of course she did.

What does Magnus reveal to Jo?

Magnus begins to unpack that he wasn’t jealous but feared Jo cheated on him with Frederick. She rebukes the claim, and he admits that he went out with someone else, and they shared a kiss. Jo said when she was in space, she only thought about getting home to him and Alice.

Jo is talking to a therapist and admits things aren’t quite as they seem. From seeing hallucinations about Paul to seeing different colors, her therapists suggest she has PTSD from what happened on the shuttle. They attempt to prescribe drugs to her, but she tells her she doesn’t want them because it’s career-ending.

What does Jo discover about the prescriptions?

After she visited with the doctor, Jo was prescribed Pharmolith to help her with her struggles. However, when she got home, she realized the pill was the same pill she was given after coming back from space. They both were lithium-7, which is given to treat bipolar disorder. She realizes anyone who came back from space questioning things they saw was given these drugs.

Frederick confronts Jo, saying he wants to know if they will still do this. She is baffled, and he says he has a job lined up for them both in California. This is followed by Jo talking space in front of Alice’s classmates.

Did Jo have an affair with Frederick?

After both incidents, Magnus called Frederick to discuss what was happening with Jo. Magnus brought up that they needed to get her help. Magnus confronts Frederick, asking if he had an affair with Jo, and he confirms he did. Jo walks into the room and swears to Magnus she can’t remember the affair.

Henry is acting frantic on the ship as the FBI are on the boat trying to uncover what happened to Ian Rogers. He calls someone for help explaining something is wrong, but they tell him nothing is wrong and to take his meds. Instead, he hangs up and throws his pills off the boat. The FBI questions Henry about his confrontation with Ian as he says he wants to push him off the ship, but he says it’s impossible because he doesn’t have the strength.

Amid the fight, Jo knocks an envelope on the ground. A cassette tape fall out of the package, from the Marine Obsevertory in Denmark. The tapes are recordings, the first from when she was on the ISS and the second from November 1967, which they had made themselves. It appears to show an accident in space and the death of a female cosmonaut — a death that has never been acknowledged.
