Summary
Constellation is a mess. While I enjoyed that we stayed straightforward with the story, the entire series direction feels lackluster.
Jo struggles to pick up the pieces after the confrontation with her husband in Episode 5 of Constellation. The tapes left for Jo to listen to have her on a wild goose chase to find out who can help her uncover the truth. On the run from everyone, Jo steals the Data Core and takes her daughter on a fact-finding mission. Season 1 continues to be a mess.
What does Jo steal from Henry’s office?
We pick up right where we left off in Episode 4, with Jo hovering over Magnus’s body after he knocked his head on the table after the two wrestled over him, hanging up the phone. She forces Alice to pack a bag quickly, and the two get in the car and drive away. It leads to the moment when Alice steals Henry’s Data Core.
Jo calls Ilya Andreev to ask him to check the pill bottle that he got from Star City. She reveals that his pills got Vitamin B, while she got Vitamin A, and hers has lithium inside. We see her go through customs and tell Ilya she will be off the grid for a bit.
Jo calls the people who sent her a tape, but she is quickly hung up on. She opens her phone and sees an article about the Skagerrak siblings (the people who sent the tape), who were sentenced to six months for breaching multiple restraining orders. The report claimed the siblings attempted to extort and blackmail NASA and Roscosmos.
Jo calls home to talk to Magnus, but Frederick takes the phone away. She asks Frederick why he told her to take the pills they gave her at Star City, but he says they weren’t what she said. Jo heads to the Skagerrak house to get answers about the tapes they sent her.
Laurenz Skagerrak brings Jo and Alice to listen to the tapes on her boat. When she starts the recordings, they are muddled, but Laurenz tells Jo to train her ears as this could be the woman she saw in space. Alice gets upset and tells her to shut the tapes off. This didn’t go as expected for Jo, who left, but not before Laurenz gave her the recordings.
How does Constellation Season 1 Episode 5 end? How does Jo figure out how to listen to the tapes?
Jo and Alice are driving where they are unpacking their biggest fears. Alice reveals she speaks to someone named Valya, the dead cosmonaut. Jo says she wishes the tape from November 1967 was clear. Alice puts the tape inside the tape player, and you can hear a voice. Alice says it’s Valya. Jo took the tape recorder and put it closer to the Data Core, and it made the tapes crystal clear.
Henry hears a noise again and sees his reflection in the mirror. He tells himself that he designed the Cold Atomic Lab that was on board the ISS and believes it made everything worse. His reflection says he is coming, and he is coming to f*ck things up.
