Crooks is slated for a release on Netflix in April 2024, and the streaming platform is hoping to build a buzz ahead of time. The German crime drama is set to be a gritty, no-holds-barred production, so we’ve assembled everything genre fans will need to know to get one step ahead of the show.

Crooks Plot Summary and First Thoughts

The official plot synopsis of Crooks, courtesy of IMDb, is as follows:

Charly’s quiet life with family in Berlin disrupted when past associates threaten them, forcing him to steal coin. Charly and driver Joseph, fatefully collided, now flee with family to escape danger.

Charly, living a quiet life in Berlin, is forced to steal a McGuffin in the shape of a gold coin. He and Joseph are involved in a shootout, and the result is a death that forces the pair to go on the run. The heist sets a series of events in motion that pits the gangs across Europe against each other, with Charly at the center of the caper.

The trailer (below) is a slick and loud presentation and locations such as Berlin, Vienna, and Marseilles, advertise the chase across Europe, making the most of the locations. High-speed chases are being used to sell the action, and there is also room here for some dark humor too. Immediately we think of early Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn, and the trailer is backed by a rocking version of Rhythm of the Night by Corona.

It might be worth mentioning that there was a teaser trailer released earlier this year that seems to highlight the more violent and gritty side to the story, the tone is completely different from the latest trailer and suggests that there may have been a decision to lighten the vibe up as the release gets closer. Whatever the reason, the series does look interesting, and if you like this kind of thing, Crooks will be a must-see.
