What’s next for John Blackthorne and Lady Mariko?
Although Blackthorne was given Lady Toda as his consort, we saw sparks fly between Blackthorne and Lady Mariko to the point they had sex. This means tensions will be high moving forward between the two. In the interim, I expect Lady Mariko will play it off, but this will surely have long-term ramifications.
I would also expect us to see more of Lady Mariko’s backstory come to the forefront of the show. Her father was Akechi Jinsai, who rose to prominence as a vassal to Kuroda, the most powerful warlord at that time. I am unsure how it will play into everything, but her story is powerful, and we haven’t begun to scratch the surface of it.
How will Lord Toranaga handle his son’s act of violence?
Lord Nagakado took matters into his own hands, attacking the Nebara Jozen. His father was away during the attack, and he will have to face consequences for his actions. I suspect Lord Toranaga strips Lord Nagakado of his duties as a cannon regiment.
The battle of Lord Ishido and Lord Toranaga
After Lord Toranaga submits his resignation to the Council of Regents, Lord Ishido must report this to the group. The Council must gather to pick a new person, but will the group agree? How does the murder of Nebara Jozen and his soldiers affect the bottom line? I suspect Lord Ishido will push the Council to vote someone in to ensure Lord Toranaga’s impeachment goes through ASAP.
On the other hand, Lord Toranaga will have John Blackthorne continue to prep his soldiers for war, but in a more pressing nature with things ramping up. As Blackthorne continues to do his part, he will seek his part of the agreement soon. I foresee Blackthorne and Toranaga butting heads when Toranaga doesn’t provide Blackthorne with his crew and ship promptly.
