The Vince Staples Show is a bit of a streaming oddity, following the day-to-day shenanigans of Vince as he traverses the obstacles of a “normal” day. But what exactly is normal? One season hardly seems like enough to figure that out, so Season 2, which hasn’t officially been confirmed yet, might be the only way to get to the bottom of such a nuanced show and unique show. Killer Mike of Run the Jewels certainly thinks so, and has joined Vince Staples himself in petitioning Netflix for a renewal.

Killer Mike Wants Season 2

Vince Staples has already been pushing Netflix for Season 2 of The Vince Staples Show, and now Killer Mike, of Run the Jewels fame, has joined the chorus. The Atlanta rapper took to Instagram on March 10, 2024, to share a picture of himself and Staples, with the captioning petitioning for Season 2 of The Vince Staples Show and, of course, of Killer Mike’s own show Trigger Warning:

Has Netflix renewed The Vince Staples for Season 2?

At the time of writing, Netflix has not renewed The Vince Staples Show for Season 2. However, there is also no official cancellation notice either, so we can’t rule out a second season yet.

Netflix will be looking at the data and deciding whether or not the show should be renewed based on its performance. There is a lot of love for the series thus far, especially from fans of Vince himself, but that may not be enough to green-light another season. It will depend on the numbers, but the off-center approach may go in its favor. Perhaps someone at Netflix will want to see how the show will evolve if it gets another run.

It is worth considering that The Vince Staples Show has been advertised as a limited series. This does not necessarily mean that a renewal is impossible, but it certainly suggests that the project was conceived as a one-off.

How have critics and audiences responded to The Vince Staples Show?

There have been some mixed reviews for The Vince Staples Show, which is understandable given its style, and the reception is heavily dependent on personal taste.

The Guardian pretty much loved the show and found it “joyously weird”, while The New York Times felt the show had an “art house” feel to it. Variety chimed in too, but feels the show is “incomplete”. However, Decider urges you to stream it, saying The Vince Staples Show is “unpredictable, funny, and often weirdly surreal.”

On IMDb the show has a high rating of 7.7/10 and fans of the rapper/actor appear to be happy with the production, a sentiment definitely echoed on X:

Who is Vince Staples?

Vincent Jamal Staples is an American rapper and singer, born in California in 1993. Vince is probably best known for his collaboration with the hip-hop collective known as Odd Future. Vince would sign with Blacksmith Records in 2013 and would move the following year to ARTium Recordings, where he would release his first project to make it to the Billboard 200, Hell Can Wait.

Singles would include Hands Up and Blue Suede, and he would start to gain a following and critical appreciation, a trend that continued with the release of a debut album called Summertime ’06. The single Norf Norf would become platinum-certified, leading to further albums including Big Fish Theory in 2017 and FM! in 2019.

Has Vince Staples acted before?

Yes, Vince had appeared in other TV and film projects before the release of his show.

What else has Vince Staples appeared in?

Fans will, of course, recognize Vince from his promotional videos for his music, but Vince was also a voice artist on animated juggernaut American Dad in an episode from 2018. He would also pop up in other TV series including Abbott Elementary, Insecure, and the 2023 TV series White Men Can’t Jump. Vince would voice the character of Lazer Wulf in the surreal animated series of the same name from 2019 that was part of the programming from Adult Swim.
