24 Hours with Gaspar is a dystopian Netflix thriller where the titular private investigator learns that his heart condition will claim his life within the next day or so, and the movie’s ending explores his fate once time runs out. Spoiler alert: It’s rather bleak.
Gaspar gathers information against Wan Ali, who sold his daughter, Kirana, to human traffickers more than two decades prior. Kirana was Gaspar’s best friend, and he wanted to spend his final hours avenging her. He gathers a group of misfits and puts together a last-minute plan to rob Wan Ali’s jewelry store.
Let’s delve into the film’s final act, which coincides with how the protagonist spent the last five hours of his life.
24 Hours with Gaspar Ending Explained
Gaspar’s timer is down to less than five hours, and it’s time for the merry group of bandits to put their plan into action. They make their way to the jewelry store, place their ski masks on, and approach Wan Ali’s store. Thankfully, they don’t have to break in, as Yadi has a key.
Upon opening the door to the room with the safe, the gang is shocked to find Wan Ali having a tea party with about 20 of his mates. With no plan B, Gaspar is forced to sound the retreat. But Wan Ali doesn’t just let them leave and instructs his many thugs to give chase. On the bright side, Tati looks like she’s having the time of her life. It’s not every day she gets involved in a high-speed car chase.
When it looks like the band of thieves is about to lose Wan Ali and his men, the car carrying Kik, Njet, Tati, and Yadi crashes into the river. Gaspar and Agnes are left with no other choice but to carry on on his motorcycle without their friends.
Gaspar Confronts Wan Ali
Reeling from the tragic loss, Gaspar is ready to give up on his plan to rob Wan Ali. But Agnes insists he needs to finish what he started.
Wearing Gaspar’s clothes and riding his motorcycle, Agnes distracts Wan Ali’s men and leads them to the place where she holds her Fight Club. She then instructs her many friends to take care of Wan Ali’s outnumbered thugs.
Back at the store, Gaspar tackles Wan Ali. The old man tries bargaining with Gaspar and even offers him a free wedding ring, but Gaspar is not there for the jewels. He beats the daylight out of Wan Ali before finally asking the old crook what happened to Kirana. When Wan Ali refuses to answer, Gaspar cuts off one of his fingers.
He then goes to a seemingly abandoned warehouse and uses Wan Ali’s severed finger to gain access. Inside, he finds several young girls held captive in a cage. The place seems to be a human organ trafficking facility.
Does Gaspar die once the 24 hours are up?
In the last room, Gaspar finds the legendary black box. When he opens it, he sees a small Kirana inside. Gaspar frees the captives before going on one final motorcycle ride. He then collapses off his bike into a ditch. A group of villagers notices his fall, but instead of trying to help, they rob the dying man.
On a more positive note, everyone somehow survived that car crash and returned to the jewelry store to collect their haul.
24 Hours with Gaspar ends with a flashback of Gaspar and Kirana as children enjoying the sunshine on a warm summer day.
