WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

With an ending that gets right to the heart of the will-they-won’t-they dynamic central to most romances, Art of Love (2024) is a Turkish heist movie about Interpol agent Alin (Esra Bilgiç), who’s trying to capture an expert art thief who’s been targeting museums and galleries all over Europe. When she figures out the culprit is her ex, the billionaire Güney, Alin rekindles their romance as a ruse to gather evidence against him. In the end, Alin must decide if she wants to pursue the relationship with Güney for real or send him to prison for being a serial thief.

The final act turns into a full-on heist movie when Güney decides to steal from the crime lord, Faysal. At a party, Faysal invited Alin and  Güney to see his ultra-secure private art collection filled with stolen goods. Faysal’s vault is top-notch with facial recognition and voice activation, so it’s no surprise Güney took it as the perfect challenge for his little team of thieves.

Güney makes his way to Faysal’s vault and uses a voice recorder and a 3D AI-generated hologram (yes, really) to gain access. The only problem is that Faysal picked that exact moment to impress a young lady with his big… ahem… art collection. Güney ignores his hacker’s advice and continues the break-in, hoping to find a spot to hide inside the vault before Faysal catches him.

Why didn’t Faysal catch Güney in the vault?

As Faysal is about to open his second secure door and catch Güney red-handed, the crime boss unexpectedly turns around and leaves. The reason for his change of plans is Alin, who was caught by security sneaking into the property. She tells Faysal she’s with Interpol and tries warning him about Güney’s planned theft, but it’s too late.

After finding Güney’s signature stone, an angry Faysal turns violent and threatens Alin. Luckily, her partner arrives just in time with other officers to get her out of that house.

When Alin wakes up the next day, she finds Faysal already in her apartment. He saw the details of her investigation and now knows it was Güney who dared steal from him.

Alin arrives at Güney’s apartment building to warn him seconds before Faysal and his goons make an appearance.

Where was Güney when he vanished for six months?

When Alin rushes into Güney’s apartment to tell him the truth, he reveals that he already knew she was an Interpol agent. According to  Güney, he planned for her to investigate him and try to entrap him in a twisted attempt to reignite their romantic connections. And when Güney disappeared for six months and broke her heart, he was actually in a Mexican prison for art theft.

As the dangerous crime lord is making his way up to  Güney’s apartment, our favorite billionaire art thief takes Alin’s hand and leads her to the roof. The two ride off into the sunset in  Güney’s helicopter.

Why is the handsome billionaire Güney moonlighting as an art thief?

The pair arrive at Güney’s cabin in the woods where he keeps all his stolen art. That’s when Alin finally asks the question we’ve all had in our minds throughout most of the movie: “Why?”

According to  Güney, he started stealing because his grandfather, a talented but unrecognized painter, instilled a love of art in him. But more importantly, because he is a sad, bored-out-his-mind billionaire. Back when they were first dating, Alin noted how the Mona Lisa’s value soared after it was stolen, so Güney got the idea to start doing the same for other works of art.

As soon as Güney finishes his tales of woe, Faysal’s men attack the cabin. For some reason,  Güney finds the predicament quite amusing. Nevertheless, Alin takes charge, and the pair escape before the crime lord’s men make their way inside.

After a short chase, Güney and Alin find themselves trapped at the edge of a lake. Oddly, as Faysal is holding a gun to his head, Güney is more interested in pestering Alin to admit she still loves him.

How does Art of Love end? How do Güney and Alin survive Faysal’s attack?

As it turns out, there is a method to Güney’s madness. When he broke into Faysal’s vault, he collected evidence of the crime lord’s collection of stolen art and handed it over to Ozan, Alin’s Interpol partner. As Faysal was about to blow Güney’s brains out, Ozan and several Interpol officers arrived to arrest the coveted crime boss.

With Faysal safely in cuffs, Alin must decide what to do about her billionaire thief. Naturally, she decides not to turn him in, tells him she loves him, and the two share a kiss.
